Not my favorite of the Marx Brothers films but has some of the funniest bits they ever put on the big screen.

Still one of the great comedies, and arguably their best film. Rufus T. Firefly has some of the best lines, especially comebacks, ever. A canonical, classic film of the comedy genre.

Admittedly, the Marx Brothers aren't for everyone (the nonsensical zaniness can wear on the patience of the more-austere customer, and the racist asides are off-putting regardless of the contexts they're viewed in). Climbing past these barriers (please tell me you can), what you've got here is one of the best these vaudevillians ever did. The plots of all the films were wafer-thin frames meant to showcase the boys at their craziest, and Groucho made the most of it with his unforgettable portrayal of Rufus T. Firefly, the political savior of the fictional country of Freedonia that's trying to stave off bankruptcy and war with a neighboring country. Street vendors Chico and Harpo are sanely installed in Groucho's Cabinet, and hilarity ensues. Veteran foil Margaret Dumont is at her aristocratically funniest, and even Zeppo is thrown a few good lines. Wicked commentary abounds about the shifting sands of political fortune, and both the "palace mirror" bit and the final "battle" arrangements should be required on every film school syllabus. These performers may be gone, but their legacy of laughter has yet to lose its luster.

Good fun, but Night at the Opera is a far better, and funnier film.

My all time favorite movie. The Marx Brothers are in absolute peak form, and if this was the only film they ever made they would still be legends. Pay special attention to Groucho's dialogue.

sexystreif wouldn't know her a** from a hole in the ground. This is perhaps the most inspired, densely-packed comedy ever in film history! The Marx Bros are the greatest vaudeville comedy team of all-time, and this was their finest, a pure, all-comedy comedy! No filler whatsoever! Where do I begin? How about when they all dress up as Groucho in his bedgown? "How about my glass of water?""Ok, I give up - how about your glass of water?" What about the mirror scene? If you didn't enjoy that, you don't know what comedy is! And the final battle scene is one of the funniest scenes I ever saw! It's also a great anti-war movie - a farce in the spirit of Strangelove and Great Dictator. Hands down, the Marx Bros are true comic legends, and this movie is why! One of my all-time greatest movies ever.

I'm not normally in to exaggerated and outlandish comedy - unless it's done right! This one is. It is a masterpiece of insanity and deflating of pompousity.

The Marx brothers' unique brand of anarchic humour may not be for all tastes, but for those of you, like me,who are enamoured, this spoof of war heroics and all sorts of -isms(with Groucho, would you believe,as President of Ruritania,Harpo and Chico as spies) surely has to be their most inspired and hilarious hour(and 10 minutes). The nightgown-mirror scene had me banging on the floor in convulsions.
