A very fine place to be about six months of the year. From late October through mid-April it is often cold, dark, and rainy. That is why there is so much good beer brewed and consumed here. So if you are a person that can't handle a bit of cabin fever, come visit in the summer months. I always enjoy my visits to Portland especially in the warmer months.

Too much rain and too many environmentalist weirdos. Go north to Seattle. The traffic is terrible until you learn to drive in it. They get a lot of rain also, but not the icy conditions Portland gets because of the Columbia gorge. As far as places to see and things to do Seattle is ten times better than Portland will ever be.

Portland is the epitome of the Pacific Northwest socio/polically. I love how Portland is ambitious without being ambitious. Intelligently planned in terms of growth management and is probably the most well run city in the country. Its natural setting may not be as spectacular as Seattle's but non the less it runs a close second with the Columbia River and Mt Hood in the back drop. Also within an hours drive of the Pacific Coast.

what seattle was like before the growth explosion. smartly portland is taking steps, some would say drastic steps, to curb growth. but, basically it has the good that seattle has without the expense and congestion.

Portland, OR is a really beautiful place. But don't worry, its stills new. The socialist will run it into the ground soon enough. 8.3% unemployment huh! That's over twice the national average. The socialist magic is further along than I imagined.

Gorgeous city, with lots of green parks and flowers - the only problem is that all those green parks and flowers are created by a lot of rain. It can be very dark and gloomy here, but on sunny days, with Mt. Hood in the distance, and the clean air, this is one of the prettiest and friendliest cities in the United States.

All the good things about a big city without the bad.

I have family that lives in Portland. First visit, I thought it was great. Many visits later, we have found vast areas of the city that looks like it is struggling and not that attractive. The unemployment rate is around 8.3%! Portland does have trendy neighborhoods and a nice downtown, but there is also a large street people population.

I am not sure if this is Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine? If it is Portland, Oregon..then it is a great city full of wonderfully down to earth people. It is always beautiful...no matter what season and I wouldn't mind living there if I found a good job.
