Yes, Phoenix is making a 5 star effort to get there. Born and raised in Phoenix it has come a long way from the dirt streets and the one freeway that went through town when my parents moved here in the 70's. Not much of all is going on downtown but there are definitely cool restaurants and bars to go to around town. Its spread out, so you will definitely need a car. Im a proud Phoenician and the city is trying to attract more life to it. The summers are hot, but not really that bad.... esp. compared to other places with high humidity It does get cold in the winter which really baffles you during the summer of 110 degrees that you will get cold in the winter. Now, it does rain here but not everyday, week or month. When it does rain you will find yourself going to a window and watching it rain. Its actually a beautiful thing to watch with the mountains as your landscape. Like any big city there's negatives. This is a great city, where you can make the most of what you want from it.

I moved her from MI. I was happy to escape. So, it's been 15 years of living in Phoenix. Yes, it's hot in the summer, but the fall and winter are unbeatable. As for the lack of water...there are plenty of lakes and recreational areas that are only a short drive away. I've lived in plenty of other places, but Phoenix is definitely home. The cost of living here is not bad either compared to other regions of the country.

All the heat means is women walking around half neked half the time. UPDATE: I'm outside all year so I'm not sure what all the talk of brutal heat is all about. Sure, there are days on my job where it takes it toll, but just like our clever propaganda says, its a dry heat. At least I don't have to deal with humidity until that little mini monsoon in August. Now if we could just get those refugees from Cali to stop building ugly condos...

When I think of Phoenix, Vegas, Most of Socal out side of the beach or any other desert city I think of PT Barnums there is a succer born every minute saying. A mini-LA in the middle of a desolete god-forsaken desert why? Zero water only redeeming quality is the sun but who cares if your going to be in doors 7 months out of the year really.

why this city and las vegas continue to grow amazes me. people, IT DOESNT RAIN in this city. why would you want to live in a desert? that is why it is deserted, no rain.

Eh...Phoenix is a gigantic sprawling city located, improbably, in a desert. There's some great surrounding scenery, and it's the best jumping point for visiting the rest of the state, but there isn't much in the city itself that's of great significance. It's far too hot in the summer, the traffic is terrible, and while some of the suburbs like Scottsdale are pleasant enough, the downtown Phoenix area isn't very interesting either. Phoenix is just sort of there.

I have lived here for 17 years and it is a great city. It does get hot out here, but that's what the water parks are for.
