 | irishgit (138) 03/07/2004 | The criticism of Schwarzenegger being unqualified to hold the office based on his past career is, in my view, elitist specious nonsense. What makes a lawyer, doctor, enterpreneur, farmer, labour leader, housewife etc, any better qualified to hold political office. In fact, a strong case could be made that Schwarzenegger not being a traditional politician is a plus, given the recent track record of that group. Being a pretty face with lots of money is nothing new to politics, it is just that Schwarzenegger is so visible and has been for so long, that it is more evident. There are many retired jocks, news anchors, astronauts, and others who have come to public office with little more than charisma and the ability to raise money. Like it or not, it is and has been a reality of politics in North America for many decades. Whether Schwarzenegger is qualified or not remains to be seen in my view. Hopefully he is, and hopefully he will not turn out to be just another shuck and jive huckster in high office.

 | abichara (60) 03/07/2004 | I actually think that Arnold has done a far better job than predecessor did, a 30 year veteran in politics. His greatest asset above all is that he owe no political debts to anyone. He'll get more done in the aggregate for California. What qualifies a career politician from holding public office anyways? Most of the political class is severely out of touch at any rate. Arnold may not know the nuances of public policy, but certainly he has more sense than a lot of other politicians out there.

SO WHAT???? WHy does it matter, when the Prez himself is his old man's j**ish business partners' meat-puppet?
At least uncle Arnie has pretended to fight crime, alien invaders and Satan Himself! Georgie boy has trouble structuring a cohesive sentence in his native language!
By the way... did anyone realise that Bushie and Blair are actually talked about extensively in the Bible?

 | Dawnsdinos (6) 03/07/2004 | Not qualified? Is that just because he is not a career politician. That is the problem with our country, we have too many career politicians. Arnold is qualified for one reason and one reason alone, he like me is sick and tired of seeing what the career politician are doing to this great state and great country.

 | Anonymous (1) 01/24/2004 | You know something is wrong when both the President of the United States and the governor of the most populous state in the U. S. are unqualified for public office.

 | pabob (2) 10/17/2003 | What's your definition of qualified? If it's Gray Davis, Cruz Bustamante, or at least 80% of the elected legislators in California, I'll take my chances with an unqualified Arnold. It's not like he could do worse than what the status quo is doing now.

 | magellan (153) 10/09/2003 | The understatement of the year. It must be frustrating for politicians who pay their dues, learn the nuts and bolts, and then get blown out of the water by a pretty face with lots of cash. To put things in perspective, if Arnold had had to submit a resume for this position, do you think he would have even gotten a call back? No way in hell. He simply is not qualified in any way. The only saving grace is that he seems to be surrounding himself with people that are qualified. ** The fact that there have been plenty of other unqualified politicians in US politics does not make Arnold any more qualified. As far as elitist, specious, nonsense - I think it is arrogant and naive to believe that ANY non-politician - whether it be a doctor, lawyer, housewife, or actor, is automatically qualified to be run a state whose economy is the size of France's. Like any other job, I'm sure being a politician takes practice and experience. I would like to assume that Arnold could not do my current job as well as I can - not because he is not smart enough, or hardworking enough, or because being an actor is a silly career - but because he has no experience in doing my particular job. I don't care what job it is - if you come in with zero experience, you are going to suck at it - at least for a little while. California can't afford the learning curve.
