Young Neapolitan Mastiffs need enough exercise to keep them lean and healthy, but not so much that their soft growing bones, joints, and ligaments become over-stressed and damaged. Adult Neapolitan Mastiffs need more exercise to keep them in shape, but not in hot or humid weather for fear of overheating. The proper amount of exercise can be difficult to regulate in giant breeds.

Very good dogs but have a lot of joint problems as they get older.

This is more like it, great dogs, they are the best dogs on the planet. I had one and they are loyal and much powerful and could grind a pit into powder.

Owning a Neapolitan Mastiff has been a dream of mine since I was about 12 and it has finally come true 8 years later :)! But Owning one (and actually I got two puppies only 4 days apart) is absolutly nothing of what I expected. Everything I've ever read said they were so hard to train because they are an alpha breed, but training my two pups has been nothing but instant. They both learn sooo quick! And they are great for smaller houses and apartments as long as they don't have to climb stairs (Stairs are a Neos' worst enemy!) because they are very low energy. One of the biggest reasons I picked this breed over any other is because I have exertion asthma so I can't exercise extensively. That makes the Neo a perfect dog for a person with asthma as long as the size and slobber once in a while. Long story short, I think almost everyone can find at least one good reason why they would want to own a Neapolitan Mastiff.

A landlord of mine it Italy has a Neapolitan Mastiff. He was a really great dog -big (sort of like a small pony!), pretty gentle most of the time, but boy, what a watchdog he was. His sheer size tended to intimidate first time visitors. A really alert creature. He was sort of a purple or blue color (or at least that was what his coat looked like the first time you saw him). Actually, I guess you'd call it slate gray.

I think Neos are the most amazing breed of dog. They have a unique and dignified appearance, are loyal and intelligent, and are absolutely HUGE! You could not get a better dog. Their awesome musculature, massive bone, and excess skin make them look truly formidable and in temperament; they are fearless. Neapolitan mastiffs are of ancient origin and they have amazing maturity for a dog. The relationship between owner and neo is based on respect and you could never want a more faithful companion in the world. I love Neapolitans and wouldn't know what to do without them.
