 | irishgit (137) 07/12/2007 | I think that he's got too much baggage and may be all but unelectable.
He's not quite the GOP's version of Hillary Clinton, but close.
And there's a whole closetful of skeletons for his enemies to exploit, as well. By which I mean his enemies in the GOP. He'll have a tough time in the primaries.

 | Loerke (46) 02/14/2007 | I have no respect for the GOP, and would never vote a Republican for President, but I can appreciate Gingrich for at least being a well-schooled and indisputably principled conservative, unlike Bush, McCain, Brownback, etc.

 | illusionbuster (7) 01/22/2007 | Good at debate and a lot liberals absolutely hate and fear him, knowledgeable about many subjects and history. It may have help Bush to have listen to his advice a lot more. Newt brings more honesty to a subjects than most politicians. So far he's probably the only somewhat conservative candidate that may make a presidential run in "08. I have some doubts about Newt but we've seen him in action for many years so we kind of know what to expect from him. So far as his personal life I don't know enough to comment on that,I heard he committed adultery on his last wife, is that true?

books, you'll know where he stands on most topics.

He is the best strategist the country has. We are in a complex and subtle war. We need a strategist; we need Newt. QED. Democrats will demonize anyone, so we might as well select the best.

 | Stephen C. Y. Pao (0) 12/11/2005 | I like his association with Ronald Reagan during the 1980s. His goal and proposals are very bright and very clear that many Conservative Republicans respect him as well as Henry Kissinger. I just can't accept that his current wife is younger than his two daughters. I know that's his past fault. That showed his bad divorce record like the former Illinois Governor Jack Ryan and the former U.S. Senator Arkansas Tim Huchinson. Newt Gingrich can be the top 5 candidate for the primary 2008. But he may lose to Hillary Clinton if he won the primary.

 | CanadaSucks (45) 11/06/2005 | The GOP version of Hillary Clinton- 'if this person runs it is a guaranteed loss' Please, please, run Newt. . .I will personall donate a few bucks for this because it would be a guaranteed victory to the democratic opponent. . .

 | nama256 (0) 11/06/2005 | I would LOVE to see Newt Gingrich run for president. He is my number one choice for the Republicans in 2008. He definetely could win the primary and has ZERO chance at being elected. He left the House in disgrace, he's way too conservative for most people and his appeal pretty much sucks. If he runs, the Democrats could run Hillary and she would beat him with both hands tied behind her back! And to top it all off, the last time a congressman was elected other than H.W Bush (who was more famous for being V.P. to Ronald Reagan) was, what, Abe Lincoln? If Newt runs, were looking at a repeat of Goldwater/Miller. I'd love that! And a Hillary vs. Newt run would be the next great presidental run. I'm all for Newt for President in 2008!

 | RoscoeSaid (0) 10/06/2005 | Newt would probably be and ever better GOP Potus than Reagan. The man in truly brilliant and his reverence for the wisdom of our Founding Fathers is something often alluded to by current pol's but seldom acted on. He's not going to be Jerry Falwell's pick which makes me like him more. Too many "pub's" have forgotten that it was his vision and tenacity that created the GOP majority in '95. Moreover, he did it with the D's favorite son in power.

 | zuchinibut (35) 09/23/2005 | Gingrich was relevant a decade ago, but is no longer a compelling national figure. I don't think there would be many voters who would want Newt to run for President.

 | CA4life (0) 06/08/2005 | The former Speaker of the House is going to run in 2008. And he will lose in the primary because Republicans are too smart to nominate him. He has a terrible image, and is not portrayed by the media in a good light.

 | Jar-Jar Binks (16) 06/07/2005 | In his dreams! It's never gonna happen because the media will dig in to his personal lifestyle and it's gonna hurt him. Not a chance; not a friggin' chance! He's better off staying out of the limelight.

 | stolypin (3) 06/06/2005 | The media hates this guy, so he would probably be able to roll easily into the WHite House. He's also kind of funny in a political sort of way. --- I think he would be a great president. He is one of the smarter, fair-minded guys to appear regularly on the talking head cable shows. His new book outlines a wonderful vision for the future of America. In a primary, he'd probably get my vote. ---- Besides, a Newt-Hillary campaign would be one for the ages!

 | James76255 (17) 04/25/2005 | I seriously doubt it. He seems to be far more popular now that he's out of politics then he ever was while he was in.

 | iamright (0) 03/16/2005 | I think Newt would make an superb President. Maybe he'd consider a role as Vice President and be the experienced advisor like Cheney to a younger candidate like Owens or Romney.

 | Mr.Political (18) 01/22/2005 | I wouldn't be surprised if Gingrich ran in '08 but I doubt he would get the party's nomination. I think Gingrich is a great person and politican but there are other potential candidates who could send Hillary back to her looney bin.

 | abichara (60) 01/12/2005 | Newt Gingrich does indeed want to run for President in 2008. He didn't act as a legislator when he was Speaker of the House and I obviously imagine that he would want an executive position in government given his style of leadership. In many ways he could be a solid candidate. He is a solid intellectual that is a force to be reckoned with. He's definitely qualified with regards to knowledge of governmental and international affairs. However, as others have pointed out, a major weakness is his stridently ideological positions that render him the Hillary Clinton of the Republican party. Only difference seems to be that Hillary has a higher profile and will shift positions for political purposes. In that respect, Gingrich has a world-view that is more systemic. Despite that, Gingrich could definitely be a top tier candidate were it not for his personal life, which will be a major hurdle in the GOP primary. He never really endeared himself well to the cultural conservatives, and that may be another problem that will need to be overcome. In sum, Gingrich could be a solid candidate, but I just don't see it happening here.

 | LanceRoxas (40) 01/11/2005 | Newt is almost surely positioning himself for a 2008 run. He's presently on a book tour that includes of all places Ohio, Iowa and New Hampshire. He's got strong numbers and name recognition amongst conservative circles, is very strong at raising money and organizing and would do very well in the debates. Look for him to make a strong showing.

 | lucasboy (1) 01/11/2005 | Who in there right mind would ever think of voting for such an idiot like this for President. He should bury himself back in the hole he crawled out of. He deserves less than a zero.
