Depends on your family I guess. In my case the only family nearby are my kids, and they're pretty unlikely to set me up. Although, in some of the most bizarre episodes of my adult life, my ex-wife has tried twice to hook me up with someone.

I trust my family's judgement, but they trust my own judgement.

This can go either way. If the set was for you them maybe, but they're just trying to get someone they know dating then there might be a problem.

Depends on who suggests the guy. I'd trust some of them to make a good choice, while others - not so much...

I should be ashamed to say this, but I've dated a few of my Sis's friends over the years...she has good taste in girlfriends what can I say...at times may be a bit awkward however, particular if your sis doesn't actually set u up...which was the case in all my brief forays...An intentional setup would probably be a good thing, your family tends to have a decent idea of the type of person that you're into + if they are a friend of someone in your family, chances are they'll also enjoy your company...how naturally different are sibblings anyway right?

Once my sister set me up with a co-worker of hers. She said we would be perfect for each other. I haven't spoke to my sister for three years.

You've struck a nerve with this one. This is SOOOO not the way to go! Kamylienne's comment is hilarious but true. Anyone your family sets you up with is guaranteed to be a total dork/Loser! (Bring on the hate mail!) I knew that from the first time my mom suggested someone I should date well over a decade ago. OMG! It should be illegal for parents to get involved with selecting dates for their kids. That's public humiliation. Think of Titanic, George of the Jungle and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I've always done just fine finding my own dates. I also hate it when they say Just take'em out once just to be a good guy because she doesn't get to go out very often. (Translation: She doesn't get to go out EVER because she refuses to get a life and become someone people want to go out with.)

(No, not set up WITH a family member, set up BY a family member). In high school, my sister set me up with a friend of mine to go to the homecoming dance. It was my first and worst date. I can't even begin to describe how much of a dick he was. What's worse, at the end of the night, we were at my parent's place with my sister and her boyfriend, and my sis and her boyfriend went downstairs to have sex while me and my date sat awkwardly upstairs waiting for his mom to pick him up. From that, I've come to the conclusion that dating sucks.
