09/30/2004 | Foreigner wasn't terrible, but the group just does not compare with the more talented and influential bands on this list. The group's 1977 self-titled debut is possibly their best, as it includes Feels Like the First Time, Cold As Ice, (the largely forgotten) Starrider, and Long, Long Way from Home. The sophomore effort Double Vision (1978) followed with the singles Hot Blooded, Blue Morning, Blue Day, and the title track. By the time of Foreigner's third and fourth full-length releases Head Games (1979) and 4 (1981), the band had obviously become predictable and vanilla, as evidenced by the title tracks, Dirty White Boy, Rev On The Red Line, Juke Box Hero, Waiting For A Girl Like You, and Urgent. The bottom line is that Foreigner is a generic arena rock band that one may consider a guilty pleasure best scratched with a compilation (eg Jukebox Heroes: The Foreigner Anthology (2000)).
