After The Beatles you can't deny that these guys come a very close second. So many songs from so many genres have been sampled from Led Zepplin notable that awful, awful song from P(imp) Diddy. They were pretty smart by not releasing singles and just releasing albums.

Never heard of them.
ILikePie 05/20/2009
They're good, there's no question of that... but endless promotion of them from every second-rate classic rock magazine, as well as having to hear the Immigrant Song all the time has started to put me off them... No Quarter stands the test of time, but many of their old, shorter songs do not.

OH, LORDY MAMA...I'VE GOT THE BAD TASTE BLUES!!!!
PCPeter774 05/16/2009
Not as good as missippi dealta blues, but considering robert johnson heavily influenced the band pretty damn close. A good example of black music influencing white artists. However I hate stairway to heaven so much I have to give them a 4 out of 5 instead of a 5 out of 5.
waltersdirtyun dies 10/13/2008
Not one of my favorite bands but they still have some pretty good talent but best ever? I dont think so.
StopFollowingM e 08/12/2008
The best Rock N Roll band ever!
Astromike 10/20/2007
Are you people insane!!! This is by far one of the greatest bands of ALL TIME!! How can the Doobie Bros and The Police be ranked higher then them? Give me a break lol. Plant was awesome, Page is one of the top 5 guitarists of all time. They made countless albums, Stairway to Heaven is a CLASSIC. I hear they may be getting back together too. It's a shame they are so low on this list :( You people need to "Get The Led Out" lol. they ROCK!!
CanadaSucks 02/15/2007
You have to look past the 5-minute guitar solos. . .you have to look past Plant (a rather irritating front-man) and you have to look past much of their 70's excess to see the actual musical talent that was present in this band. . .
Ben999 02/15/2007
Not sure how theyre so low in this topic. One of the greatest bands ever. Stairway, Black Dog, Kashmir, When the Levee Breaks, Rock and Roll and Whole Lotta Love are all classic Zeppelin songs.

Jimmy Page was a follower of Satanist Aleister Crowley, the master Satanist of the 20th century. He purchased Crowleys estate on the shores of Loch Ness. Page had Crowleys statement Do What Thou Wilt inscribed in the plastic surrounding the label of Led Zeppelin III. John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin, died in September 1980 at age 32 after drinking more than 40 shots of vodka in 12 hours. "Again, the devil took Him (Jesus) to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory; and he said to Him, "All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.Then Jesus said to him, "Go, Satan! For it is written, YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"" (Matthew 4:9-11) "There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death" (Proverb. 14:12) All quotes from the from the Holy Bible. Kick major ass. My favourite all time band.
angelontheisla nd 06/07/2006
Overrated garbage.Rotten singer and boring drummer and a very cliched and tired guitarist. And the bass playing...simply childish.
Keeb02345 03/22/2006
Possibly the greatest band ever. If you dont believe me listen to Fool in the Rain, In the Evening or That's the Way. All hail the Mighty Zep!
brownfinger 03/21/2006
No,No, No.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Musical retards who operated on the chronic - moronic level.
doobiesNhof 03/15/2006
Rated in the top 5 of all bands.
boldaslove 03/12/2006
Ghastly band. Robert Plant is probably one of the greatest NON-TALENTS ever. With a voice like a castrated french poodle and hair style to match, this man was a posturing ponce who also could NOT write original songs. Many people are ignorant of the fact that half the songs on the first two albums were old black blues numbers!! (Dazed and confused, whole lotta love, lemon song etc...)

Led Zeppelin (supposedly named because Keith Moon said that the band would go over like a lead balloon) burst onto the scene in 1969 and continued to rule the harder rock scene until 1975 (and beyond) with their final great release "Physical Graffiti." While the band is considered a (if not the) definitive heavy metal band, their music was basically blues with the volume turned up to 11, yet still incorporated world music and folk with a heavy dose of mythology and mysticism. Their self-titled debut released in 1969 was basically all metal/blues with the sole exceptions of "Black Mountain Side" (folk) and "Communication Breakdown" (which is almost punk sounding). "Led Zeppelin II" (1969) avoids the typical sophomore slump and continues with the basic metal/blues formula. Though the track "Ramble On" sounds almost jazzy smooth when compared to the other tracks and provides a nice contrast, "Moby Dick" is a poor instrumental (in my opinion and as another comment noted) and is basically an outlet for Bonham's drum solo excesses. "Led Zeppelin III" (1970) breaks away somewhat from the core metal/blues formula and indicates experimenting in more folk and world as evidenced by "Immigrant Song," "Gallows Pole," and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp." With their fourth effort, "Led Zeppelin IV" (1971) (officially untitled), the band released their most successful (and overplayed) track, "Stairway To Heaven." The highlight for me on this release was the goth, darker toned "When The Levee Breaks." The band returned to this sound on "Houses Of The Holy" (1973) with "No Quarter" and a more up-tempo folk acoustic sound with "Over The Hills And Far Away," but Houses still remains metal/blues at its core as with all the band's previous efforts. The final great full-length effort from the band was "Physical Graffiti" (1975), a double album (this was the 1970's remember), so this release is full of moments of excess and includes the immortal "Kashmir," which highlights how much the band had grown with Eastern influences. With all that said, there are some excellent box sets available for Led Zeppelin which include some of their essential non-LP tracks (ie non available anywhere else), most notable "Traveling Riverside Blues" and "Hey Hey What Can I Do." The bottom line is that the talent of the band and the influence Led Zeppelin had on subsequent artists cannot be denied. (Note that the band refused to release most of their songs as singles which accounts for their lack of chart success.)

No melodies, no harmonies, very unsophisticated. Shocking lead singer and a drummer whose solo on Moby Dick is a defining moment in the history of the word "boredom".Lots of ignorant reviews on this page by some emotionally retarded men. When will you grow up, boys!!!

Appealing to teenagers. They arenot for the mature.Poxy!!!

The band that instantly blew away all of those in it's wake after rehearsing and cutting an instant classic within three weeks of their first meeting. The great high echelon of Rock and Roll acts includes: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Led Zeppelin. And none of those other groups had a guitarist that could come near the dexterity and power of James Patrick Page. A band so good, and so powerful throughout it's first five years that their mere mention raises hackles and illicits venom spewed by those who are so jealous of their scope that they've turned to punk rock or insipid speed metal to try and mask their own deficiencies. Being the best will always bring out the worst in those that find themselves to be inadequate. Stairway to Heaven alone is enough to cement for them their legend and it is not even their best work. It is, however, better than anyone else's best work. My only quibbles with this band revolved around Robert Plant's effeminate posing (as his on stage persona in the form of "Percy") and most of their less than steller material that was released after the Physical Grafitti album. It's not how you leave them but how much you leave them with that counts and this group left us with plenty. It also left us with a gaping hole when it left us for good.
ZedLeppelin 12/05/2005
How are these guys so low?
darrenstevens 11/18/2005
This band lacks credibility. And a very poor live act.
megs21781 11/17/2005
The best band ever. Great music, Great lyrics, all around a wonderful band. I could listen to Led Zep every day and never get tired of hearing pure raw talent. They were the beginning of great rock and roll.
magpiescott 11/06/2005
Unoriginal rip off artists!
goldilocks 09/12/2005
Great musicianship. The best and I'll never get tired of listening to them. Terrific live, just watch How The West Was Won....says it all.
Spy 04/05/2005
I would say that they are the bast band ever not just because they discovered meta music but because they just played some really good music. My favorit is Stairway To Heaven
traderboy 03/10/2005
Awfully good studio-wise, but was a random luck-of-the-draw type of thing live. John Paul Jones STILL doesn't get the credit he deserves. Instantly identifiable, which is really all ANY band should strive for.
the icon of sin 03/07/2005
The Moody Blues above the great Zep? Not a chance, get these men a top spot! A superb musical variety and overall high, high technical ability.
Sajak16 03/03/2005
Nearly every rock band after 1971 owes a lot to these guys. Unquestionably the greatest hard rock band ever, with one of the greatest guitarists ever. Riffs and complicated solos galore. Unadulterated ability.
JFO 02/22/2005
One of the best hard rock if not outright best bands ever. After all they inspired so many bands including TOOL. Which by the way should be ATLEAST in th top three of this list!
scarletfeather 12/28/2004
I would say they are the best heavy metal band ever. However, they're not comparable to other bands on this list like the Beatles and the Stones. UPDATE:I'm upgrading them to a 5, because I've been in a Led Zeppelin mood lately. They were 100 per cent pure testosterone. Yeah, baby! And they sounded so good!
Djahuti 12/28/2004
One of the greatest rhythm sections ever and an amazing guitarist.Only Janis Joplin could have made them sound better.
snlgirl 09/02/2004
This is the ultimate classic rock band. They are all so talented and awesome. Jimmy Paige is a god!
Solo King 08/05/2004
great band; great songs. sadly page is the most overrated guitarist on the planet, but his songwriting and plant's screaming vocals made for a fantastic band.
koentje 05/13/2004
the lyrics are amazing, the music is amazing, these guys are geniuses

LZ teach me to listen music!
offspringero 04/26/2004
they suck, hard? rock?
Jello 04/12/2004
What can you say about Zeppelin? Not much. Simply amazing. I'll leave it at that. The best hard rock band ever. Period.
fraggy 04/05/2004
They knew how to write great songs
oldiesmusicfan 101 02/06/2004
Awesome band, Jimmy Page can play the guitar almost flawlessly.
Byrdiohead 01/11/2004
Led Zeppelin really live up to their name. They're that heavy! Most of the heaviness comes from the superb drumming of John Bohnam. Hit beats are so hard that they permeate the entire sound. On top of that you have Jimmy Page throwing guitar around like it's a hot potato on fire. John Paul Jones lays down a good support to the Bohnam/Page attack and Robert Plant belt out notes that are hard to hit for anyone. Through all the screaming and riffing you can still hear that the sound is tight and collective.
