Sicilian awful! No sauce to speak of; few meats or cheese and the thin crust is more like a cracker! What a waste even with a coupon!

My quest for the perfect frozen pizza is finally over. (For now)I used to buy other brands (tombstone, red baron, even the mighty DiGiorno Ultimate) and keep them in my freezer. Then I would see a pizza commercial on TV and got the cravings for smooth, mushy cheesy pizza (some people like hard crusts, I'm more NY style. Soft, mushy and cheesy) and to satisfy my TV commercial induced cravings, I would put any of the aforementioned brands in the oven. All of them with the exception of DiGiorno would come out of the oven the same: Tasting like if I'd spread pasta sauce over a cracker and melted cheap cheese on top. Digiorno is not that bad, but still, the taste of the ingredients is too strong, the cheese not enough and the crust still hard for my taste. (Let alone in order to be thoroughly cooked, they end up to brown for my taste) Behold the best frozen pizza I've ever had. California Pizza Kitchen. I tried one of their restaurant pizzas once and didn't like it. But in my quest for the perfect frozen pizza, so many people touted it to be the best one out there, only surpassed by an obscure pizza brand not available in my area called "Pizza Romana" (I still intend to try that one whenever I manage to spot a Whole Foods. The only place that carries them), that I decided to give CPK a second shot, this time in frozen version. I picked up the CPK - SELF RAISING CRUST Chicken BBQ. Like I said, I like it soft, so I followed the Box instructions for a soft crust and Baked it at 400 degrees in the oven for 23 minutes, on top of a cookie sheet or pizza tray. (The box said 24 minutes but I like my pizzas just light brown).Finally. The elusive Holy Grail. Soft, cheesy AND MUSHY. Just what the doctor ordered. Just one side note: In this pizza the ingredients come on top of the cheese, but no additional cheese comes on top of the ingredients. For me that's a requirement in any decent pizza, since it holds the ingredients together once melted and prevents them from drying up under the 400 degree heat. So I simply sprinkled 2 tablespoons of High quality mozzarella cheese on top of the pizza before putting it in the oven and problem solved.I also tried the 5 cheese tomato and loved it even more.I have not tried the thin crust, so I can't vouch for that one. (Not my type of pie)Now, If can manage to try that elusive "Pizza Romana", my quest will be complete.

A bit pricey. The BBQ Chicken pizza is their best one. The others: Sicilian, White Pizza, etc are average at best. They have little flavor, like most frozen pizza's.

Decent forzen pizzas. However given their price, they could come a bit bigger.

CPK now has individual sized pizzas. The cheese pizzas are good enough for me. I always feel weird about buying them though....because it says 'pizza for one' on it, implying that I obviously have nobody to eat with on that night.

I'm surprised to see such mixed reviews. I've been to the restaurant, and had the frozen pizza, and I think they're both great. IMO the people that had bad experiences may have done somthing wrong in the process of cooking the pizza, which is kinda hard to mess up. Oh well, they will always have my business.

I really love this pizza :) Definitely a unique spin on pizza. It's a bit pricey, but if I find it on sale I make sure to buy a couple. The thin crusts bbq chicken is great for dipping!

The Margherita Pizza is probably my favorite frozen pizza out there- the olive oil is a great substitute to tomato sauce and the simplicity of the cheese and basil makes for a light, delicious pizza. Sometimes these pizzas don't come out well because of cook time and oven rack location, but most of the time (for me) it comes out crispy with all of the ingredients thoroughly cooked.

Terrible...bought two of them and sooo sorry that I did, now I still have one in the freezer. Bought the All Natural Pepperoni and the spicy Chicken..Baked the pepperoni one and while crust on outside edge was brown and crispy, inside was thick and mushy..center was not cooked at all, though steamy hot. Had to slice and put back on oven rack.. Then the taste was awful...great for a diet...birds are now eating it..Hope they're still flying tomorrow. P.S. I'm a foodie...have done gourmet catering and now compete in cookoffs and bakeoffs. Stay away from this expensive disater!

I tried one of these last weekend. I had company, got distracted and since I have an unreliable oven anyway - ended up burning the bottom of the crust just a bit. Still, it had a good flavor and the amount of toppings wasn't bad. So, I'm giving them high marks based on the fact that few frozen pizzas taste very good anyway and, if this one could stand up to the abuse of my oven, it must be one of the better ones going.

I had the sicilian and was really disappointed. I really wanted a classic pizza and disliked the smoked tomato sauce, it tasted almost like bbq sauce (would have been fine if I was eating a bbq chicken pizza, but not so great with pepperoni and such). I will give them another try, but only when I'm in the mood for fusion food.

People, you have got to be kidding!! I had a hawiian pizza and I have NEVER tasted anything as horrible and fake. The ham was DRY and hard and left a bad after-taste. The pineapples looked dyed yellow and tasted artificial, like pineapple candy. Don't let "the name brand" fool you. I don't believe these frozen pizza's were even made by CA pizza. I think they just sold their name to some two-bit slap together frozen food company. Unfortunetly it's hurting their image!

I thought the box was empty when I first picked up the CPK thin crust...tastes good, but terrible value.

My favorite frozen pizza. The Sicilian thin crust is delicious.

We have traveled to Italy many times, and also enjoyed pizza in some of the finest American cities. Most pizzas in America are too crust-intensive. Italian pizzas are thin crispy crusts and none of that sweet red stuff. The Calif pizza was very much like Italy's pizza. We purchased the spinach and cheese, and added our own lean meat. It was excellent. We thawed it first in the refrig for about 3 hours and then baked it. It turned out perfect. What a joy to finally find a store-bought pizza that holds up to high expectations.

Best tasting frozen pizza out there.

Flavorless. They wave the ingredients and cheese over the top. At first I thought I'd ordered a large saucer shaped piece of bread. They must be really worried about food costs. Horribly overpriced. Horribly over-rated. This is Dominos "eat in." Don't do this do your date.

Their thin crust White Pizza is my favorite frozen pizza on the market. Probably because for me it seems all frozen tomato sauce based pizzas taste too sweet, almost a ketchup like quality. Also, their newer thin crust pizzas seem to cook better, more evenly, than their original ones which always had a strange gooey texture towards the top of the crust layer right under the cheese.
foamjack 08/23/2005
I always get the sicilian thin crust. By the way the secret to all good frozen pizzas is that you have to ad your own grated cheese to it just before its done cooking. Cheap bastards never give you enough cheese.
sweetg 05/02/2005
I really like the thin crispy crust Margherita, and the small more doughy crust five cheese and tomato. A good frozen pizza. No complaints.
Golden Bear 01/20/2005
Crust has a weird chewy consistency. The ones with barbecue sauce as a topping are way too sweet and get really mushy in the middle. I'd steer clear of this one.
ladytina22 11/10/2002
Loved it!!!! So far I have only tried the five cheese and tomato, but It was very good. I found myself searching different grocery stores to see which carried the product.

Not a huge fan of this one. Want expensive, gourmet? Try Freschetta. Want good deal, good food? Try Tombstone. On a BIG Budget? Go Totino's
