I think this is a pretty important factor. The vehicle I own now gets a lot better gas mileage than my last one. To me, than can add up to be quite a savings.

I agree with CS's concept, but my "cheap around town" vehicle is a bicycle (2 cents per mile) and my "cheap around the county" rig is a Honda motorcycle (60 mpg). The car gets 20mpg, but I only drive about 2,000 miles per year, so auto mileage isn't a major issue for me.

3 to 4 range. . .I keep two vehicles. "Long distance/classy car" and "cheap around town" car. Cheap-around-town car must (must) get over 35 or I walk. The larger car is more negotiable. This will rise up the ladder in my opinion as (one day) gas becomes so expensive that Americans are forced to stop buying extension-of-my-manhood vehicles that get 14 mpg and fall apart at 85K miles.

Gas mileage often has to be sacrificed a bit to get a car with enough leg and head room. I want good gas mileage, but I have to be able to fit in the car.

Depends on gas prices. I rank safety and reliability above mileage.

Although this has been a relatively minor consideration for me in the past, with the escalating costs of gasoline it is becoming more of a factor in choosing my next vehicle. It's still not the primary consideration, but it's edging out some of the other priorities I've had in the past.
