Good, slightly creepy and offbeat tune for him. I don't care for the album as a whole though. Aside from this track and the minor hits mentioned in the first review below, I actually think it's the weakest album of his of the many he put out from 1969-1974.

This whole era was so dark for Elton, but man did I love it. This song is just an example of how versitile he is. Once again a great use of harmony and mood swing within a song.

Madman Across The Water is the title track from Elton John's dark 1971 full-length release. The song is long and ambitious, but is not nearly as accesible as the more familiar tracks off of Madman (ie Tiny Dancer and Levon). Of course, the subject mater dealing with insanity doesn't help matters much. Nevertheless, the single remains a favorite among the less casual fans and is much better than most of his post 1976 work.
