Unfortunately now overplayed, Candle In The Wind remains one of Elton John's signature songs notwithstanding the fact that the single was not released in the U.S. in 1973. (A live version did chart in 1988). Originally written as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe, Elton and Bernie Taupin rewrote the lyrics to alter the song to memorialize Princess Diana. Candle In The Wind is one of Elton's most covered songs (eg Kate Bush).

The five stars are for the live in Australia version, not the original studio version and certainly not the one he rehashed for Princess Diana. His heart was in the right place, but he should have written a completely different song to honor her.
