 | edt4 (104) 02/29/2008 | I can't say I ever really followed this band (I bought "Agents of Fortune" for a dollar at a garage sale in Salisbury, CT,in the late 70's and listened to it obsessively for the entire summer, but, despite that, never felt compelled to go out and buy more of their albums, even though I liked several of their subsequent songs) but I did like a lot of their stuff, at least until they went the Aerosmith route and tried to become commercially viable. I think they're still around and playing, so give them an extra point for longevity. And "Don't Fear The Reaper", despite being overplayed for decades on the radio, is still a really great song.

 | Flick01 (71) 01/11/2005 | I really liked Blue Oyster Cult before they achieved commercial success and then lost much of the bite that made their first few albums raw and driving. I saw them in 1974 when they only filled half a movie theater. It was a great moment when the lead singer looked around and said You are our fans and went into Cities Aflame With Rock and Roll. At one point even the drummer came out from behind the drums, grabbed a guitar and the entire band stood in a line just blaring away with all members playing guitar. I let the darker side of their lyrics just roll of my shoulders and enjoyed the music and the good times. Even today I still crank up the song Flaming Telepaths when cruising late at night as I speed down an open but deserted road.

 | alpepper (21) 08/30/2004 | They're talented enough. Though they were supposedly a big deal in the 1970s, I never did see the big deal about them. Seemed like all the Stoners liked them (which I was definitely not). I do like Don't Fear the Reaper. But my favorite BOC song is Burning for You, the definitive song of the fall of '81.

 | Moosekarloff (18) 05/28/2004 | Don't Fear... was a very fine song, but one tune does not a canon make. Eric Bloom and I went to the same college, and yet even that's not enough to make accord this group more than two stars.
