I would give this show five stars except it was usually viewed on a 19" black & white television set. It is a bit hard to display the sweeping vistas of the western landscape in that format. Maybe that is why so much of the show seemed to be around the campfire at night. Ward Bond was great as the wagon master and their was plenty of guest talent each week to make it more interesting.

Each fall a wagon train took off from St. Joe, Missouri, for California where it would arrive in the spring at the end of the tv season. The story was all the adventures in between. Ward Bond was the original wagonmaster, and after he died, that job fell to actor John McIntire. Scout, Flint McCullogh, played by Robert Horton was a major character. Even after the original cast was replaced, the show stayed popular.

Hi. I have many memories of Wagon Train. I am looking for information. When I was a kid my family lived next door to Terry Wilson who was Bill Hawks on the show. I went to school with his kids. We moved away and through the years lost track of the family. Does anyone out there have any info?

Wagon Train was one of the best tv shows ever made. The 4 original stars Ward Bond, Terry Wilson , Frank McGrath. Robert Horton. And the later ones, John McIntire, Denny Miller, Robert Fuller, Micheal Burns, were good and the guest stars, The list is a wonderful example of how popular the show was. But the regular stars could and did carry the story just as good as the big name gust stars. WT could be action, drama, comity, or all in a hour. And the show took 2 excellent stuntmen [Terry Wilson- Bill Hawks] and Frank McGrath- Charlie Wooster] and turned them into good actors. I have tapes of Wagon Train and we watch it once a week at least. My family and I miss the western. we wish it was on tv again.

I have very fond memories of this show. Ward Bond was one of the best charactor actors of all time. I would watch it again if they brought back the reruns.

A great show and a great hit in its day! Don't get me wrong - I would not be sitting around watching it now. The day of the western is long past, at least for me. But back in the early sixties "Wagon Train" was definitely a great addition to this television genre. The show featured top-notch acting, directing, writing and production values. Guest stars included some of Hollywood's top motion picture stars - quite a coup in a time when television was still considered a medium beneath the serious film or stage actor. The permanent cast included veteran actor Ward Bond who was replaced as wagon master by the equally talented John McIntire upon his death. The show had a certain amount of shoot 'em up but also included a lot of interesting human interest stories as different groups of people made the long trek west each week. It will always be a fond television memory for me.
