 | MariusQelDroma (36) 11/29/2007 | Stalin lost track of how many people got lost in his gulags. Never a good thing. One of the few people I'd qualify for the bottom circle of hell.

 | GenghisTheHun (177) 10/30/2007 | Today is October 30. On this date in history, in 1961, the leadership of the Soviet Union decreed that Stalin's body would be removed from the common tomb that it shared with Lenin's body and be buried next to the Kremlin wall with a plain marker.
Stalin died in 1953 and his body was embalmed and placed on display alongside of Lenin. The anti-Stalinists eventually gained power and after Malenkov was deposed, and Khrushchev gained power, the reaction against Stalin gained strength. In February, 1956, Khrushchev made his secret speech to the Communist leadership denouncing Stalin and his excesses. This began the process of de-Stalinization that reached a climax with the decree on this day and the actual removal of the remains on October 31, 1961.
Today Stalin's reputation is experiencing a revival as nostalgia causes many to look back on the glory days of the USSR.

 | Miss_Perverse (1) 07/10/2005 | The personification of evil. It's vile for people (historians) or misguided ideologists to try and discern any redeeming features about this man. The overseeing of millions of deaths negates ANY redemption in the past, present, or future. Enough said about this human piece of filth.

 | callitdowntheline75 (69) 06/03/2005 | If there ever was an ideal candidate for most hated person ever, this demented monster was. One of the great faces of evil, Joseph Stalin was nothing more than a delusional thug who murdered people out of his own paranoia. The innocent lives he took meant nothing to him. All he craved was power and how to secure it to no ends. And for anyone to even suggest he is misunderstood (like the moronic commie-loon, Ed Asner, suggests) is totally unforgiveable. No sane human would even suggest Stalin was misunderstood. There was no excuse for his monstrous acts, and there is absolutely no excuse for anyone to defend Stalin. NO EXCUSE!!!

 | LanceRoxas (41) 11/19/2004 | I believe Stalin is underated in his monstrosity. He let close to 20 million of his own countrymen strave. Butchered countless millions more and reigned supreme leader of one of the most repressive regimes in history. They should have a new word for his kind of evil.

 | jakemr33 (6) 11/11/2004 | Horrible man, good riddance. What interesting about Stalin is he was in the process of becoming a priest or pastor of some sort when all of a sudden he lost his faith in God. He became a devout atheist and evil dictator and killed millions of people....utter shame.......

 | PzKpfw VI E (28) 09/04/2004 | He was a bastard, plan and simple. He killed his own people for no reason, killed his opposition and killed off anyone who posed spoke against him. Although, the populations of Western Europe owe their freedom to him, indirectly. For if it was not for the Red Army holding up the majority of the German troops in the east, the Western Allies would not be able to mount Overlord. Although, if it was his choice, he would probable have wanted Western Europe under his Iron Curtain.

 | scarletfeather (53) 03/13/2004 | This man wasn't called the Man of Steel for nothing. He was responsible for the deaths of hundreds, probably even thousands. Even when dissenting Communist party leader Leon Trotsky fled to Mexico, Stalin tracked this man down and had him assassinated. This shows what a vicious bully Stalin was--although Trotsky was on the other side of the world and posing no real danger to him, he still had the poor man murdered.
