My mother tripped and fell there while on vacation and not even an ambulance was available. She then had to pay cash with dollars for the cast.
When she got back to the US she had to have surgery because of the crappy job they did down there.

 | Polina (1) 05/28/2007 | Well, his country is rich in doctors, with health care second to none for all the population, no matter what their income (see the latest Michael Moore film which mentions this subject and which USA govt is getting its knickers in a twist about). At least there are now no black people cleaning the shoes of Mafia's "Mr Big" and they have Fidel to thank for that. What Cuba needs is trade with USA so that the Cubans can enjoy some wealth now and of course that is exactly what USA do not want, so hence the trade embargo. Glad to see that tourism is taking off in a big way. I hope there will be a trickle down effect and that the money is not all going to foreign companies. Fidel is not perfect but I dare say he is no worse than say Reagan, Bush or Blair. Probably has caused far less deaths than them too.

Chinese government is worse and convervatives and conversative corporate America do deal with them. Go Figure. Just like China if you disagree loud enough he will put you against a wall and bring out a firing squad.

 | JonTheMan (29) 11/27/2003 | Not really, actually he was recently nominated for a Nobel peace prize and the UN has voted almost unanimously to end the embargo against Cuba. He has quite a few fans. The Manic Street preachers and Oprah Winfrey for example. In a recent speech in Argentina he was loudly cheered.
