My friend used to be (and still is) a big, big fan of the Ramones. He knew them well enough that if they played in the area, he would sometimes get to hang out with them (or some of them, at least) for awhile. At every concert, he wore a genuine leather "hood" jacket that he had "borrowed" from his father, a pretty tough guy who used to be in a Newark gang in the 1950's. One time, he and Joey were in the tour bus and Joey, admiring his jacket, offered to buy it from him. My friend was sorely tempted, but ultimately had to decline, as it wasn't really his to sell. Now, he wishes that he had. "My Dad's too old to wear it without looking ridiculous, and what the hell am I going to do with it? Imagine seeing Joey up there singing while he's wearing my jacket! What a trip that woulda been!" Oh, well...

They are great--I have several! I must point out that they were NOT cool in the 1950's! My favorite was a NKVD style leather trench coat back in the early 1970's. It had all kinds of buckles and belts and neat stuff on it. Martha threw it away when I was out of the house one time!

My husband and I both wear leather jackets. They never go out of style and I prefer it to wearing a big thick coat. If taken care of properly they can last forever.

There's nothing sexier than a good looking guy with sunglasses, a nice leather jacket, a day's old stubble and a really fast car.

I even love the smell of leather. I have a favorite black leather jacket that I have owned for years. Of course, I can only wear it maybe a total of 2 weeks out of the year.~~~~You are correct CastleBee, however, the basic leather jacket has gone through many changes over the years that could classify it as being faddish. The motorcycle jacket, bomber jacket, sueded and dyed leathers, and not to forget the rootin' tootin' fringed Western jackets.

I thought this was more of a classic look as opposed to being faddish.

Not all types are for everyone but they truly are a classic. To call them a trend or fad doesn't give them justice.

Trend? Fad? Not at all - leather jackets are a timeless classic. I've had several in the past 30 years or so - my current one is a WW II Navy aviator style, and is about 10 years old. It's starting to look a little worn, but it is a great all-around piece of apparel. Keeps me warm when it's cold outside, but can also be worn while warm outside without feeling uncomfortable. Highly recommend one to anyone, of either sex.

Classic and elegant. I have a WW-II style A-4 fighter pilot's jacket, and it looks just as good with jeans and a t-shirt as it does with a button-down and a tie.

Classic and timeless. . .I keep two of them handy. Certainly lasted longer than that whole jean-jacket thing. . .

I love seeing women in leather jackets because they look sexy in them.

I had one that lasted almost ten years, and I just bought another one. It's worth it.

They look great, they feel great. They're the only kind of jacket I wear unless it's raining.
