We may lack civilization in the classical sense of the word, but it can be fairly stated that America's greatest strength has always been that we've adopted the ideas and inventions of the old world and perfected them and refined them. From food and machinery to political ideas, Americans have always been at the forefront of innovation. More than anything else, that has been the sustaining factor in America's development from an agrarian society to a world power.
