Some of Al's best friends were Detroit's Purple Gang,who are considered leading contenders to have carried out The St. Valentine's Day Massacre-and were in the Canadian booze biz with him.

Although I don't know anything about stars or why he said this line, for some reason, it sounds funny. It sounds like he is trying to be stupid.
