Thorpe was commenting on a thorough purge of a British cabinet at a time of scandal, by a Prime Minister anxious to retain power. Its hardly the first or last time that's happened, but Thorpe's quote is one of the finer commentaries on the phenomenon.

He obviously doesn't know what real love is. A great saying for a selfish person!
