This is bad. You can buy the plate for $29.95, but wait, if you act now, you can get TWO plates for $29.95.

When the poor rubes try to sell them later, they can't get $2.95 for them.

I'm not a plate collector, but I have seen other people's collector's plates. Some of them are very nice.

I sure wouldn't want the job of keeping these dusted all the time. You'd have a never ending job.

I can't understand why people collect these. As Castlebee points out, anytime Collectors or Collectible is in the title, its a good sign that its a bad investment. The only good reason to collect something is because it brings you pleasure. Collecting overmarketed junk with the hope that it will appreciate in value is a fool's errand.

I have no problem with people wanting to collect these if they really enjoy having them around. I have to admit though I've seen a few homes where, ahem, I might silently question the person's sense of interior design among other things. But to each his/her own. However, I find it hard to believe that there are actually people out there groping for the phone every time QVC or the Home Shopping club offer something like this and thinking of it as some kind of investment (that goes for the froufrou dollies too). The word Collector should be the first red flag in helping the would-be investor to realize that this stuff is never going to make it anywhere near Christies or Sothebys anytime in the next millennium. Ive seen too many collectibles gracing garage sale tables for less than half their original value and people with a kind of desperate look on their face that reads something like, Pahleeeeeez take some of this crap off my hands so I have room for my Christmas decorations!.
