 | EschewObfuscation (71) 04/28/2005 | What I remember most distinctly is the aftermath of the collisions and the injuries. As a Junior, playing 1st base, a throw came from left field and got past the catcher. He chased the ball and I ran to cover the plate. Just as I caught his flip, the runner lowered his shoulder and lifted me (at 61 195#, then) off the ground. I landed about 10 feet from home plate. Through no skill or determination of mine, they opened my glove, calling my name over and over, and the ball was in it. The detail of a tag didn't seem important to the ump, who (from what I have heard) called the runner out and ejected him from the game. That incident, and getting a pitch in the ribs, are the most memorable moments. I can still show you where that ball hit me.
