Retarded-ly Funny

I liked this the first two or three times, then people started imitating it for everything. Now the original seems pretty played out. They should change it up.

but a master card technically isn't money either.
irishgit 05/21/2008
At their very best excellent, at their worst far better than average. Probably the best of the credit-card campaigns.
X Factor Z 01/27/2007
The absolute worst commercial ever, the one where the sappy, bald, yuppie wus opens his ownd business and promptly waste money on $900 desk chairs, a ping pong table and a stupid dog! How corny, I hope the dog craps on the table and chews up the desk chairs. This spot encourages people who do not know better to waste money and run up high credit card bills, (of course). That is why so mony start up dot.com companies in the late 90's went broke, because yhe geeks who started them had no business acumen or experiance and wasted precious cash and resources. I have a BBA so I should know a little about this. Also the spot where that punk kid wastes $238 just to look like a bum! You can spend $.50 at a thrift store for a vvintage T-shirt and $7.50 for a hair cut...really...poor spoiled rich boy with daddy's credit card. Mute button...PRICELESS!

I don't know if Mastercard could have realized just how good this campaign could have turned out for them. Granted, more than half of the email slogans we receive based on it are either vulgar or sexually inappropriate, but they're getting even more advertising without paying for it.
VirileVagabond 09/25/2006
Apparently some of the prior reviewers are confusing their distaste for the product for the ad campaign; however, I will make no such mistake and rate the MasterCard spots an easy five stars. These ads are witty and often poignant. Moreover, the fact that they've been parodied so much only attests to how effective the commercials have been in entering the public mindset, and that's rarely a bad thing for a business.

Opened up a whole bunch of new jokes in this fashion.
cromulance 04/24/2005
It got old after a while. Although I did like the recent one with the lost Boston Terrier.
Alexg681 02/01/2005
Not bad, but enough already, I'm sick of them now. That damn Peyton Manning Mastercard commercial is on all the time!

Pretty good. But it's a little tired. I mean we can recite them: isn't it a bit much?
Redoedo 06/23/2004
Like a stack of debt that takes years to pay off. Thanks, but no thanks.
kamylienne 05/23/2004
Memorable, at least, and has been parodized many times. Its latest series regarding the exploits of a lost dog going home (Badger) is an obvious tug on the heartstrings . . . but, admittedly, it works. It's had a good run, perhaps it's time to go with something new.
feikert03 03/20/2004
Sometimes funny, sometimes they leave a warm feeling inside. I was never a fan of credit cards but I sort of seem (I hate pop ups!!) attracted to this one so apperently there is a great mind at work behind this ad.
Jaws 02/11/2004
This ad has had probably hundreds of spin-off's. The one that sticks out in my mind is one involing Jesse Jackson which reads: New stroller - $90, moving expenses - $40,000, hypocricy of consulting President Clinton with your own pregnant mistress - priceless.
HardCor 02/09/2004
Well as far as this add campaign goes, In my opinion it was just ok. I like the fact that they acknowledge that money can not buy everything, which is refreshing to hear in a world of intense greed and monetary influence. It's getting a bit old tho. As for credit cards go in general, they are just another excuse to get people to overextend themselves and create even more problems. Credit card company's are making billions from us, just in interest alone. My motto in this respect is; If you can't afford it, don't buy it, period. People think they need all this useless crap floating around and it just takes away from those things we really do need. Sure I have a few useless things in my home but I have no credit cards and honestly I am happy if my bills are paid, my fridge has food in it and the roof over my head stay's there. To be honest tho credit cards do have some benefits if you can be resposible and show some self restraint with it. For the most part tho I think most of you should do yourself a favor and cut them up before they cut you down. HardCor

Jed1000 01/12/2004
The first few ads were good but it's time to retire the campaign.
