Gimme a break. Some school library in some small town in some backwater county refusing to shelf this book does not amount to a ban. It amounts to a choice by school administrators to buy one book over another, a choice they make every day. It amounts to one lost sale, which didn't hurt the publisher. In fact it got one more day of free publicity for a commercial venture that was masterful at milking the media for such stuff.

Forget about the witchcraft! The Harry Potter lynch mob won't be pleased with Dumbledore taping his foot in the men's bathroom.

Frankly, the books are over-rated crap, but banning them is ludicrous.

I'm not the biggest fan of this stuff, I think it's merely okay, and have only read the first book. That being said, I'm pretty certain that a lynch mob of book burning Philistines and buffoons are hunting for Snuggle the detergent bear with torches as we speak...

Y'know, I'm a Christian and I enjoy reading the series. It's fun and teaches good values and lessons to kids. Unfortunately, my uncle would forbid his son to read the series or even see the films based on them for that matter. I don't really see the difference between the HP series and C.S. Lewis' Narnia series or even the LOTR trilogy for that matter.

I thoroughly enjoy the series. Not all Christian groups ban them. Focus ont he family and a few others have recommended them for the qualities of love and such that they teach to children.

It's amazing to me that the people that want to ban these books always talk about the darkness of the setting, or the witchcraft and wizardry, and completely ignore the other aspects of the books. The ones that should make these required reading. Perserverance in the face of adversity, sticking up for your friends, doing the right thing regardless of the cost. They introduce kids to the fact that sometimes life hurts, but you'll get through it. And that's before you consider the incredible fact that this series, all by itself, has brought reading back to the teenage masses. For that, if nothing else, I'd love these books. I can say it's the first time in my life that a book has become a #1 bestseller, before it was even released. As for the people banning these books, go ahead. All you're going to do is make kids want to read them more.

harry potter made kids want to read again, why would anyone complain? the books are fantasy, just like many many many other books, there is a make believe element added this isnt the guide to worshipping satan, its actually quite moral putting characters in tough positions where they have to do the right thing.

Oh no, I've read Harry Potter, and now my poor little impressionable mind has been possessed by the devil...Come on now people, it's better than having your kid spend 12 hours a day killing people in video games.

At my sister's school (a catholic school) they banned these books because they thgought it promoted witchcraft. the idiots.

Oh, no, not scary magic! Whatever. Anything that encourages kids to read is good. The magic in this setting is not derived from Satan. It's just a classic good versus evil plot in a very original setting.
