Historically interesting for its refusal to be conned by Marxist totalitarian regimes, but currently irrelevent (assuming it even exists).

For an example of the state of the SLP today - the SLP has no internet discussion groups at all that I am aware of. There is a myspace site that bills itself as an offical SLP site. The site however consists of one person positng an article from the SLP publication the People (former publication??) and another person commenting "Yeah that was a really good article." ANY critical or probing questioning is quickly dealt with by the user's membership in the forum being deleted without comment.

I'm a member of a discussion forum on DeLeonism:

We try to pick up where the SLP seems to have left off.

but look at the SLP myspace site as well for a comparison:

The Socialist Labor Party was founded in 1876 or so, but it wasn't until 1890 that it began to formulate it's Marxist-DeLeonist idealogy. Many leftists today discount the Party because it has never supported foreign state capitalist governments, dictators and aimless reformists. Also, the SLP has never absurdly supported the Democratic Party as others do. The Socialist Labor Party has never advocated anything other than the purest definition of socialism, which is as follows: "...that social system under which the necessaries of production are owned, controlled and administered by the people, for the people, and under which, accordingly, the cause of political and economic despotism having been abolished, class rule is at end. That is socialism, nothing short of that". It is the misguided leftists who cannot accept such a definition. But the SLP has never been irrelevant. They are the only US political party that has refused to be swayed by money, either foreign or domestic. The SLP have always been on the side of the working class, period. Check this party out for yourself.

This party has been around forever. It was founded in the mid 19th Century and fell under the influence of a remarkable person, Daniel DeLeon. It took a position in opposition to main-line socialists and evenutally to the Communists. It participated in the formation of the IWW in 1905. It was so dominated by DeLeon that it increasingly sank into irrelevance. Few if any members exist today.
