It's a kind of "hostage" tax, since you have no option when you are dead. If government doesn't do anything to abolish it, let's place all dying Americans in stasis chambers and keep them alive indefinitely. If the government declares them technically dead and charges the death tax, let them be revived every 5 years of so enough as to prove they are alive and force the government to return the stolen money, with interests. Then, place them back in stasis. Repeat indefinitely.

This is a Marxist tax that falls on you when you die. It is morally and economically wrong and should be repealed.

Repeal the estate tax, and you widen the gap between those who have, and those who have not. Those who have not lose the least to this, and those who have will pay big bucks (e.g. hire lobbyists and lawyers) to avoid this hit and any other they can buy their way out of.

Yes. Why should anyone be taxed for dying? What have I or my relatives done when I pass that justifies the government sending my family a bill?

Since wealth is the primary beneficiary of government services, wealth should be taxed. The estate wouldn't exist but for the stability and infrastructure provided by society as a whole.

Absolutely. EVERY tax should be repealed other than minimal sales taxes.

If it's been taxed once or, once in a year in some cases, then it shouldn't be taxed again. Besides once someone dies they should have the right to pass it on to whom ever they choose with minimal confusion. It's like giving someone a gift, it's just that they get it when you're done with it (dead).

I don't think so. After all large Estate duties were one of the main factors in dissolving the economic and social dominance of the aristocracy in Europe where administrative duties began to switch to people based on ability rather then family ties. Currently only the exceedingly wealthy are incurring this tax and likely it doesn't do too much harm to them. Another thing is, I dislike hereditary privilege. Certainly someone has a right to provide security for their families after they're gone but I dislike the idea of parents passing over vast estates to their offspring (the offspring won't make a contribution to the economy in getting those estates, they'll simply receive them, which is not productive, they haven't truly EARNED it) without some of the wealth going back to the society that produced that vast wealth in the first place.
