Someone needs to get the clue about this one.

So, some people want to whine about how they are the victim of this. Boo frickin' hoo. When you catch the crap I do while being relatively well behaved, you might have something to talk about. Even so, I say BRING IT ON to the people who try to bait me or talk about how my weblists should be removed and then act like they never said it. Yeah, I know who you are. Keep at it, I guess, and I'll just keep making you look dumb...

Why not? Some people here seem to make this their only real contribution. Rating and membership would certainly go down if professional harassers are ousted. Harassment causes conflicts, conflicts cause comments and new lists, comments and new lists cause more items to be reviewed, more items cause more traffic, more traffic cause more earnings. We need people to harass here. Mainly, it is a charitable function by giving people a chance to show up their wicked side in an anonymous manner so they can deal with their own personal problems without beating the wife or kids.

Define harrass. There are people on here who think they're being harrassed if you post a different opinion than they do. On the other hand, no one needs to get tons of personal messages lecturing them either.

This shit doesn't even make my top two thousand list of daily aggravations. I can see it's usefulness though.

One question, Who the *uck is Harry Cooper?

My experience is that harassers can't take it when they get it back. Just pour it on for a while and they soon cut and run. Maybe get a few allies to add to the fun.

This is a great rule. I don't believe another member ought to harass any other person just because they might have a different opinion than someone else.

A great rule and too bad it is not enforced, but I'm sure it would be difficult. Most people that I have noticed who regularly do this complain the greatest when the tide has turned against them.

Harrassment is not having a difference of opinion; I guarantee you there are no two people on this website who have the same opinions on every issue. This website is about seeing differences in opinion. Issues arise when people decide to sanctimoniously lord their opinions on the rest of us. On many issues, you can make a judgement based on the actual facts on the ground. Now on issues surrounding literary tastes, politics, and religion, the criteria becomes somewhat more subjective. Some opinions are more based more on personal tastes. The only idiots out there are the ones who think that they have all the answers to the world's problems and want to convert people forcibly to their side. What makes this site so dynamic is the exchange of opinion in a respectful manner. However, it's incredible what gets some people going; usually small, petty stuff.

I've come across some raters who get all fired up and start sending hatemail because they disagree with a comment. I think the obvious reaction here would instead be to think up an intelligent rebuttle and post a comment. Dude, if you can't remain calm while scrolling through rateitall, I don't know how you can function in everyday life.

An excellent suggestion. No, I haven't been hassled. I don't consider one negative e-mail harrassment. . .nothing wrong with dealing with someone else's opinion as long as it doesn't get nasty.

Irishgit needs to go back and read his own statement on this list. He made comments concerning me in one of his reviews and has sent me personal messages as well. Quite frankly, I couldn't care less what his opinion is because he doesn't put any value on anyone else's.

Just like Hero said, it really all depends on what you consider harrassment. While I love bitchy email, I do not like being called a queer...or the f word that is popular amongst homophobics. Even though it is only the internet, and I do try to act tough sometimes, it can still make me feel bad. It just depends on who is saying it I guess. And I also think if a member does not want normal email from another RIA member, they need to simply reply with a message that states I do not care for messages.

It's happened to me a couple of times but I guess it also depends on what we choose to view as harassment. Not everyone enjoys getting letters from little kids filled with insults and childish names because someone doesn't agree with something that was said.

RateItAll should not tolerate harassment of other reviewers. It is quite disappointing to open a personal message anticipating some good suggestions for one's weblists, only to find someone abrasively questioning a comment. While there is little RateItAll can do about a stream of not helpfuls as harassment, the management could delete comments that mention a member by name (unless that is the purpose of the list, item, etc). The bottom line is that harassment only evidences one's immaturity and interferes with the civil environment of this site. RateItAll is not a forum for debate as there are other websites for that purpose.

A great rule. No one on here deserves to be harassed by other reviewers. Fortunately, that has not happened to me.

I don't mind getting messages from those with different opinions than I, and so far I haven't really been harassed, and I hope it stays that way.

Seems reasonable, but I guess it depends on how you define harassment. Having a differing opinion is not harassment, but sending unwanted messages to someone, or disparaging them through comments is. I'd have to agree that there is no place for this hateful / aggressive kind of communication on RIA - there's enough of that in the offline world.
