Above average, relatively simple strategic war game. Reasonably quick to play, and despite its simplicity, fairly faithful to historical accuracy.

One of the better games out there. We had some really good games in college. This game is reminiscent of Risk, but is much more detailed, and requires more strategy. It does take a while to play, so make sure you have a few hours to spare, and don't forget to go get the beer before you start playing. Don't listen to my roommate (Nihiladrem), this is a great game, he just has no attention span.

One of the greatest games ever made. Tremendously loved in high school and college, alas, in real life it is hard to find that much time to play a single game!

Axis & Allies was a big hit when it was released in 1984. Some appealing aspects are immediate action (unlike Chess for instance), historical aspects (though the designers were more than liberal with the facts), and almost limitless strategies. The downsides are very complex rules (i.e. you have to have serious players), lots of pieces to track (i.e. not lose), and the game doesn't convert well for computer opponents. The bottom line is that Axis & Allies is fun for serious gamers who are willing to invest time and attention but would be a pass for most others.

A LONG boring game whose attraction I have never understood.

It's good. But it's no risk. I dont know, its almost like theres too much invovled. Not that im saying its too complictated for me. I can definitly play the game. But the complexity of it restricts you too much i think.

Way too involved - like Dungeons and Dragons.

Bad ass. More in depth than its rivals.

An excellent "easy" war game. I have killed many a weekend (and enemy army, navy and air force) with good friends, abundant pizza and beer, and this game. Considering the simplicity of the rules, the strategic possibilities are surprisingly numerous. Don't try to capture Britain too soon, and think of creative ways to use countries that weren't active in the real war!

Great complexity and pieces. One of the first great war games for serious gamers!

if you've got the time to learn a complex game, and have friends who will take the game seriously, it's a great way to kill saturday and most of sunday.

One of the best games ever, I remember playing for 2-3 days strait. When it comes to great war games Axis & Allies is infinetly better simply because it's not always the same stategy or same army pices as in risk. If you want a stategy game that will challege you to think, Axis & Allies is the way to go.
