Born on September 7, 1533 at Greenwich, England, Elizabeth I was the last of the Tudor Dynasty and is considered one the most successful British monarchs. Inheriting a tattered realm, Elizabeth I reduced domestic religious tensions, made England the world's leading naval power, and initiated the English expansion into the Americas. Elizabeth I died at Richmond Palace on March 24, 1603.
