when she was missing and was reported as kidnapped, this was in the press a lot for nine months. thank goodness she was found alive. and for awhile after that she was still in the news. after that it filtered out for most of the time with an update here and there. I saw her on Oprah a few months ago and she appears to be doing well. in college trying to lead her life. it had a lot of news for awhile. i am glad they are leaving the family alone.

I can't believe that even today I still hear or see something on the news about her, or see her father interviewed again. I've always thought this was weird and the family seemed weird by the way they acted. Besides, what responsible man would bring a drugged out looking hippie-type to his family's home to do any work there? It just makes no sense to me. That guy and his wife clearly looked crazy to me when I saw them on the news. I would NEVER bring somebody like that to my home for ANY reason!

there is so much more to this than anyone is aware of even the salt lake city keystone kops. 1- how did a man who cant even shoplift beer from a store able to go into the federal heights area of slc and to a house he had only been at a few hours a year and half prior and enter and kidnap a girl without no noise and no evidence or clues? 2- at thentime of herdisappearance another girl had been kidnapped but was returned right away. at the press conference the girls father was thanking everyone including elizabeth's father who was standing behind the man and if you watch ed smart and not the nman speaking you will see a man who seemed to be enjoying life. it most definitely was not a man distraught over his missing daughter. 3- the fact that those that found elizabeth had to share the reward money with the smart family cuz the sister after saying one thing and then another did come up with brian mitchell as a name so it was felt that they also deserved it. 4 the smart family was in financial trouble and needed to sell the house as soon as possible or they were in deep trouble. 5- that elizabeth was starting to rebel and that she had talked of running away from her fathers control 6- that when president bush publicly signed the amber alert bill he called attention to every one standing with him whether it was a rescued kidnap victim, a parent of a missing child etc.... even to a brther of one the rescued victims and to the boys accomplishments but he never once acknowledged elizabeth smart and her parents standing there the listn of oddities goes on and on. the majority of the people here think there is alot more to the story but time will only tell if we ever get the truth. if i had to come up with one theory that i would think could have happened and it would be that her father ed smart set this up for financial gain and how much elizabeth or her mother and other family knew i have no idea they could know everything to nothing. but this didnt just happen. this was a well concieved plan im almost sure of it

The reason why this story couldn't stay off the news for so long was that the family was so weird; it seemed like they were all spaced out. That and they had the money to keep their PR machine going for a long time. Again, there are a lot of kidnapping cases every year. What did this one get so much attention?

I'm glad she's home and safe regardless of the circumstances...which I still maintain are very weird. But a MOVIE! Give me a break! Something else I won't be watching along with the Jessica Lynch Story.

I have no issue with this little girl, but I despise her parent's unrelenting lust for the public eye and the cash that comes with it. They have made a commodity of their child's misery, and they are beneath contempt.
