Is this the day that lithe sleek 19 year old latina clad in stockings and heels is going to deliver me that nasty flavored coffee?

We already have this--October 12--Dia la Raza. We still call it Columbus Day, but it won't be long.

I'm 1/4 Swiss! So I demand that we have a Swiss-American Day. Everyone can sit home and eat Swiss-American cheese, and the children can stay home from school.

As a Hispanic (American Mexican), I dislike the concept of a Hispanic Day or any other racial/ethnic day. When we start treating any group as an entitled and exclusive group, it starts to breed contempt and resentment. Better we should have an American Celebration Day. I know I'm Hispanic and if you see me you would know it too. So why do I or anyone else need a day to recognize this. It's the height of arrogance to push someone's race or ethnicity on someone else. I think as a society we sometimes feel a collective guilt and want to right wrongs from the past. Well I have news for you. The past is dead and gone. Why don't we grow up? If we made a personal attempt to respect people in general we would go a lot further as a country and as a people. That doesn't mean we should develop amnesia and forget who we are, or that there is no racism. You just can't let it hold you back in life. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your roots, I am. Let's remember in this country, we are Americans and if you can recognize that, than there are no minorities, and thus, no need for special ethnic days.
