Gutless sportswriters (who want good relations with players and agents) keep telling us that "the fans don't care." Many do. . .and with the integrity of the game at stake, the baseball media (as a whole) wilted and did little or nothing as the game skated dangerously close to WWF territory. . .'roids are killing this game, jerking with all-time records, and (quite frankly) telling young kids that damaging your body is worth it.Throw them out or let everyone do what they want. . .anything else is intrigue.

It is very disappointing. The recent outing of A-Rod really hurts. It is not susposed to be like this. I think everything else has been said at one time or another.

HA HA HA!!! Barry Bonds, you roid soaked freak, I'm enjoying so much watching your charlatan career get washed down the toilet. In reality, i could care less about your swollen, purple ass. Your father may have to love you, but you have shamed him.

Steroids should be a legal drug to purchase and use especially for professional athletes. The risks of correct usage of steroids is minimal compared to the damage done by legal products already on the market i.e. tabacco and alcohol. Why no calls to ban those? Mature adults who are willing to assume additional risks to increase their potential skills and marketability should be free to do so. We allow guys to race cars around a track at 235 MPH for pure entertainment value yet we won't allow a guy to assume the risk of performance enhancing drugs? We allow people to take potentially dangerous pain killers to return from injury faster but we won't let them assume the risk of taking drugs that make the physically stronger and less likely to get injured in the first place? And all this crap about the record books being tainted is that -just crap. Babe Ruth never faced closers who throw 100mph plus in the bottom of the 9th after facing three different relievers all lefties that are in just to pitch to him. A five man rotation? NEVER. How many home runs did Babe Ruth hit off of black players? Zippo! How many home runs did he hit on a day game after taking the red eye from the west coast to the east? Oh! He traveled by train. And the complaints about a level playing field? The pitchers are juicing too and using HGH so the field is quite level. Ask Roger Clemens during his roid rage why he tossed the bat at Mike Piazza in 2000 and see if you get a straight answer. All the sanctimonious bologna about the yesteryears and how great it was is just pure crap. The game is more popular today than ever. It makes more money than ever. The players are more popular than ever. I say let the players juice up all they like. Let them assume whatever risk they wish to assume. And let me enjoy my 550 yard balls that clear the tops of the stadiums while flying into orbit.

The problem isn't quite as bad as everyone makes it out to be-- muscle mass is increased only slightly by steroid use and mass isn't that large a part of the game. But its still cheating, and rampant cheating among some of the biggest stars in the game is a huge problem.

I am still in believe that baseball can't get their stuff together... how could there not have been rules about this before... All the higher-ups in baseball need to be fired.

Im a pretty shrimpy guy who doesn't really have much muscle. Never the less, I bet a could hit a few out of Fenway with a shot or two of Andro.

Drug enhanced records cheapen the game. Shame on you Giambi, Bonds et al.

Yeah, Barry.

this might even be the biggest problems in all of sports. A lot of players are abusing steroids and there performance shows it, not mentioning names (cough barry bonds cough).

The homerun records mean so little thanks to the drug pumping sluggers.

If I want to see freaks I will go to the circus - oh wait... I mean major league ballparks.

Obviously steroid use is a big issue in Major League Baseball. The big hitters like Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire bring in lots of money and that what really matters in baseball now. It isn't fair that records made by past players who earned their place in baseball history without the assistance of steroids will be shadowed by the McGwires of the league. Babe Ruth had to work hard to earn his record, which he did in a remarkably short amount of time. What you see today is players cutting corners to get ahead. Yes, the home run races are entertaining and bring in the dollars for MLB, but we should really question the legitimacy of these players records. Unfortunately baseball has done little to address these concerns.

Major League Baseball execs are saying hey, if you want us to enforce this you've got to make steroid use illegal. Ball players are professionals and if some guys are getting juiced, the other guys know that they need that same edge in order to keep pace and be competitive.

It's prevalent in all sports and baseball is only getting this kind of attention because of the recent home run rampages and the union's unwillingness to submit to any meaningful testing. Overall, people have always cheated in baseball - the spitter, watering down base paths, growing the grass longer, stealing signs, this is just another example of it.

It's a shame for Bonds to surpass Ruth and Aaron, people who earned their records. Bonds career would be declining now--at 40--without steroids. It looks like he's swinging a whiffle ball bat. Without steroids, at the age of 40 he would be a 230 hitter with 10 homers and 50 RBIs. Pitchers wouldn't be afraid of him. I'm also concerned about his health.
zuchinibut 11/17/2003
I think this is a big problem with baseball. Baseball records that some people value as sacred are now being tarnished because they are being broken by players that have obviously used steroids to increase their performance. It is a shame that baseball didn't take steps to curb steroid use like the NFL, the Olympics, and the NCAA did years ago.
