At lot closer to some real cops than makes people comfortable. A brilliantly played role.

dennis franz and some very talented writers gave andy sipowicz life. he became more than just a character on a show. it made you for a moment wonder how life is going for him now that show has ended. im not talking about dennis im talking about andy. though he is not real he came to exist in peoples minds and their hearts. one of the best

Over the years he surely has evolved. He has endured deaths of loved ones and it has made a compassionate.

As Andy Sipowicz, Dennis Franz, with the help of some excellent writing, has crafted a character that seems capable of doing or saying anything that's put before him. Even in those (rare) moments when the writers let him down, Franz keeps his character from straying off into implausibility. Because of this, the transformations Sipowicz has undergone over the years seem, in retrospect, logical, leading you to realize that his humanity was always there, simply waiting to be unleashed. Brilliant work! Sipowicz, at his core, remains the cop many of us like to believe we were, or at least wish we'd been.
