12/01/2003 | Born on January 10, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jim Croce was a blue-collar singer/songwriter during a time when most of his contemporaries were more intellectual (eg Joni Mitchell and James Taylor). This made Croce a bit one dimensional as evidenced by the singles You Don't Mess Around With Jim and Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. Some of Croce's other notable singles include Time In A Bottle and Operator (That's Not The Way It Feels). Nevertheless, we will never know if Jim Croce would have grown and maintained his popularity as he died in an airplane crash on September 20, 1973 in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
