I separate baseball as a sport and the corporation Major League Baseball as a consortium of corporations joined in their selfish, capitalistic interests. Baseball is fine with the exception of the designated hitter rule. It should be eliminated on all levels of amateur and minor league (professional) play, as should any additional hitter or defense-only player rules. Major League Baseball needs to find a guy like Bowie Kuhn and charge him with the responsibility of maintaining the good of the game again. Bud Selig has an inherent conflict of interest and the deterioration in the corporation has been showing since they could not find a replacement for Fay Vincent. The Commissioner of Baseball should never be a team owner, regardless of how popular the sport has become or becomes in the future. The steroids issue (and baseball's lack of response to it)shows, better than anything, the impotence of a non-objective commissioner. As long as attendance stays strong, it will not be addressed.

The one problem I see is the modern stadiums. They're too hitter-friendly, ERA has gone way up, and it seems that anybody can hit a homer. I think baseball needs to correct those wrongs.

I don't see what's wrong with baseball, to be honest. Maybe I'm naive. There are so many exciting, young players right now (Beltran, Vazquez, Dontrelle, Pierre), and so many surprises (who predicted Cincinatti -or how about Detroit??- would do so well this year?) And for people who love drama, you have your comeback stories (Griffey, Guerrero), your record-breakers (Thome, Bonds, ...), your rule-benders (Sosa), and your age-old rivalries (Yanks-Sox, Yanks-Mets, ...). My favorite part has to be the older pitchers, continuing to kick ass (Johnson, Clemens, Rogers, Maddux?) I have no complaints whatsoever.

Baseball is terrible, yes it is just that, America's pastime, what idiots due to pass time when it's not football season. Boring product, crappy teams, tarnished records, and it is now a two team league. I am tired of hearing baseball's issues, maybe if we ignore it, the sport will just go away.

Jordan has more titles in my lifetime that the Yankees, I am 26. The Yankees are not a problem, in fact they are the most popular and respected organization in sports. The key to survival in a crowded entertainment/sports market is differentiation. Baseball owns this category and shall remain this way in spite of what all the experts/NFL say.
