without a doubt marino was the greats=est pure passer the n.f.l ever saw..he was never given a running back and in 32 years of watching the n.f.l i never saw one quarter back throw perfect catches and have them dropped by so many players..if dan had rice ,records would have been made that never would have been broken...

Critics will point out that Marino played 8 home games a year in Miami- not the worst place to throw a football. But he racked up great numbers in the AFC east playing in Buffalo and NewYorkJerseyJetLand and New England. . .great stats, long career, didn't win the big game but the Dolphins were famous for not giving him much help at the RB position. . .

All you fooools saying Marino didn't have a strong arm...what the hell?. And whoever the tard that compared warner to Marino, obviously knows Nothing about football or either never watched Marino play. The man had numerous amounts of knee surgeries...wore braces on his legs, and never complained like pussy players now and days. Marinos best recievers ever were clearly duper and clayton...that was in the 80's. Marino took his team to the super bowl in 85, being 16-3, that should have been his ring. He was one of the legendary quarterbacks class of 1983 that got taken in the first round....holding or having held almost every major NFL passing record. After duper and clayton marino never had any real great recievers...at all!! Thats why he never went back to get a ring, he was never handed any real great catchers like he deserved. Dan Marino is the all time greatest quarterback in NFL history, and will always be. I have been a fan for 18 years, and will continue to be until I die. He was like the king with all the jewels, but never got the crown.

OVER RATED?!?!?!?! IF he had a running game his numbers would of been higher and he would have won two to three Rings!!!!Don't forget his injury to his heel! Plus Montana loved watching Dan as he mentioned in past interviews!!!I guess with no arm strength you can throw for ovew 61,000 yards and 420 td's! HE Is over rated alright!!!!!!
indy1 04/27/2008
over rated. He piled up yards but he didn't have the strong arm of a warner or the quick release.
Scotty1977 03/23/2008
No SB Wins.. Only records which are now broken.
ben21g 01/22/2008
Not a champion...and had plenty of chances
Ben999 02/18/2007
Best quarterback numbers wise. I think Marino and Montana are about tied for best quarterback of all time because if Marino played on the 49ers I think he would have won some superbowls but I also think his numbers wouldnt be so good.
alomewandsam 08/02/2006
Marino is in the Hall of Fame and should be. OK, no ring BUT give him the supporting cast that Montana had and there are the rings. Blame the lack of rings on the Fins ownership and front office, not on Marino. The guy was ballet on a gridiron.
dan900 07/19/2006
Dan has no ring, no picture of him and a superbowl trophy, but still is one of the best to play the game. A quality QB is a leader on and off the team. A QB is a leader when he is involved with his community and his team. Dan Marino made a home in Miami and play his best for more than 12 years. The only other person Dan has to be mad at (other than himself) for not having another trip to the super bowl is Jim Kelly and those dam Bills that couldnt win it in 3 tries.

Great stats. Big A-HOLE.
sfalconer 03/13/2006
I think he is a little overrated and he usually choked in the big game. He never won a Super Bowl.
hotel283 03/13/2006
I live in Toronto and get the Bills games on TV so I've seen Marino play quite a bit. The ubiquitous quarterback, certainly in his leadership and his arm. People knock him for being so slow but to do what he did with the knowledge that he couldn't scramble away from trouble as easily as some pivots is just proof to me how good he was. Not complete, but worthy of the Hall. Plus, I'll never forget that play one year - against the Jets I think - where he faked a QB spike and lobbed an easy toss into the end zone for the score.
newoldschool 12/02/2005
Great arm and accuracy, but bad on the intangibles. His teams were all about him.
CUBuffs155 01/23/2005
Stats are what brings him up. Where are the rings?? I'd rather have Tom Brady now than Marino at any point in his career.
LanceRoxas 11/30/2004
Being a long tormented Jets fan I had the unfortunate experience of watching Marino's Godlike performances closeup on numerous occasions. (He passed for more touchdowns against the Jets than any team in the NFL- yippie #$@#) Dan's statistics are unmatched with almost 5000 completions 60% completion ratio, over 61000 passing yards and 420 TDS not even until Manning recently has someone come close to matching the statistics Marino seem to make routine. Unfortunately for Dan however he never brought home the big prize, a Superbowl championship and to be the greatest for me you need to win the big one. *****Update: Likeitatnoon, sorry buddy- football is a team sport not an individual sport. To be a great position player as part of a team you need to drive that team to excel not just yourself. That's why Bill Russell was a better player than Wilt Chamberlin. Great players make their teams great- and those teams win championships. And I have have played numerous teams sports from high school through college and semi-pro baseball. Dan Marino was great but he lacks the essential team hardware to be the greatest.
Likeitatnoon 11/29/2004
By far one of the best ever. If you think a ring makes a a true champion then you are short-sighted and more than likley never played organized sports.(Keep in mind that Trent Dilfer won a ring)To say that he never made his teammates better shows a complete lack of understanding for the game. Marino was able to do what most only dream of and he did it with a poor defense and no RB.
numbah16tdhaha 11/27/2004
A shame that Peyton I can't get it together for the playoffs Manning will break his record.
ellis 11/26/2004
Let's go chuck the ball down the field, and play the real Fun'n'Gun. Hey, it worked. I mean, it's not like Miami had a running back that could have even made the practice squad in '72!
widgeon 07/21/2004
you have to win the big one to be the big one!
louiethe20th 07/09/2004
Pure passer?Probobly the best ever.Holds single season yardage and TD records?Yes and they will probobly never fall.Super Bowl ring?
Gehrig 06/19/2004
One of the best QBs to never win a SuperBowl
soulfunkstein 05/16/2004
Never made his teamates better players and therefore could never win the Super Bowl. The best pure passer in NFL history but that means nothing to me championships are the true measure of success and Marino falls short. He will go to the hall of fame but to me he is a second tier QB.
Ninobene 04/23/2004
If he guy had a RB, he'd have a ring or two.
stallion550 04/04/2004
He might not have the ring, but he had all the tools needed to play qb in the NFL from the accuracy to the quick release. It was awesome when he would make strings of over 10 completions in a row and been in the zone.
footballwatcho ut 03/29/2004
How many quarterbacks have rings? How many have done what Marino has done? We will never see another Dan Marino on the gridiron again.
chrisk1177 03/18/2004
Never won a super bowl.
optionfootball 03/15/2004
Very good, not the greatest, of course lacks the ring, but so do a lot of great players. Those records will fall, not too difficultly I predict, within the next 10 years.
Canes Girl 02/26/2004
he's got all the records.....just missing the ring
jgls 01/08/2004
he probably did more with less than most of the other great quarterbacks of his era. he had to carry the team on his shoulders every year; in his entire 17 year career, he had one 1,000 yard running back, and more than half those years the dolphins defense sucked.
pabob 01/07/2004
Along with Fran Tarkington, the best QB to never win a ring.
The Real Truth 11/21/2003
Dan was the man.
