Marion Lorne was a great comedic character actress known for her bumbling, clumsy and forgetful roles. She was adept at physical comedy. Her best known role was as the sweet but klutzy Aunt Clara on the classic hit Bewitched. She was born Marion MacDougal August 12, 1883 in West Pittson Pennsylvania. She trained to become an actress at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. She became a stage actress and married playwright Walter Hackett who died in 1942. The two had lived in Britain where Lorne had performed on stage. After Hackett's death, Lorne returned to the United States. Lorne was cast as Robert Walker's mother in Alfred Hitchcock's Stranger's on a Train. Then in 1952 she ventured into the small screen with the show Mr Peepers. She starred in other television shows but it was Bewitched that she became most well known.
