I ran track, but distance runners don't fit the jock profile...

These days, they're not that bad. In fact, an increasing number of them don't seem to mind hanging out with those of us lower on the social food chain.

These types are cool. Many of them happen to be my friends. So quit complaining about it.

There were exceptions (very few at my school) but on the whole I have to say most acted as though the rest were far beneath their notice.

I find it kind of sad that every single movie you've ever seen makes the football team full os jerks, because it's a stereotype, and strictly adhering to them is rarely healthy. I was a jock. I was also an English Major. I hung out with geeks and jocks. Not all nerdy kids are deep and humble souls, and not all jocks are jerks. On the other hand, I played college football at a Division III school, and a lot of the guys on my team were arrogant meatheads. But still, don't judge a book by its cover.

Alot of my friends were jocks, and several of them were really cute, too ! My first boyfriend was a jock. But there were quite a few annoying ones as well.

I tend to lump this group with the snobs, because they seemed so smug in their popularity. At any rate, I never got to know any very well, because as a shy kid I was beneath their notice.

Two points here. Firstly, cheerleaders should be a separate item, and not lumped in with the athletes/jocks. This is because athletes/jocks are, well, athletes/jocks, and cheerleaders are there primarily because they want to hang out with the guys. Secondly, I find it interesting that the comments here, some made by the broader-minded members of our quirky little community are so quick to stereotype. Certainly there are any number of jocks that fit the no-necked, arrogant, brain-dead intolerant moron of cliched legend. In the same way there are science club members who are pencil-necked, taped-up glasses wearing, adenoidal geeks. Just as certainly, there are any number of bright, self-aware and self-conscious, kind, and articulate jocks. Being an athlete frequently draws a lot of scorn from the non-athletic, who are quick to disparage an assumed lack of intelligence. This is akin to racists talking about how good niggers are at football because they're a lot closer to animals.

They get their fifteen minutes of fame early. Once in a while there is a decent one, but rarely have I seen more arrogant people with less to be arrogant about.

Rated in the middle because though some were stereotypically arrogant and exclusive, I had a few friends who were jocks who were some of the sweetest guys you could possibly know.

Snobs, arrogant and hung out with their cliches. Stuck on themselves and could be really mean.
