If the money was on the line, and the game was tight, Stabler was one of a few guys (Montana's the other that comes to mind) that I would want taking the snap. There were guys who threw better and ran better and made better decisions, but there have been damn few who were so fearless and effective in the clutch. He could find a lot of ways to beat the opposition.

The Snake was a fun guy to watch. Though he lived a rough, party hardy lifestyle, the guy was a winner.

He is absolutely the BEST Quarterback Oakland Raiders ever had. He engineered the game and brought them to victory during the times when football was truly football not the type of game we have today. Watching Snake was always exciting and his escapades off the field were just as exciting. I'm waiting until the NFL wakes up and finally inducts him into the NFL Hall of Fame - he should have been there years ago! Way to go Snake.

From 1973 to 1979, during his tenure as starting quarterback with the mighty Oakland Raiders, there was no better quarteback in the NFL than Kenny Stabler. The Snake was one of the last true field generals. He was among the last in a group that called his own plays, commanded his own offense, and served as his own offensive coordinater. His poise in the huddle was unrivaled, his ability to find the open man unprecidented, and his cool under pressure downright legendary. Stabler was at his absolute best when having to come from behind and finally nailing down the winning drive. He was a river boat gambler and he seemed to always win. The defense was in fear when the Snake had the ball with eghty yards to go and two minutes to get there. Much more often than not, he got there. The crowning moment in his career was winning the Super Bowl over Minnesota in 1977, but I'll always remember the Monday night game against Archie Manning's Saints in 1979. The Raiders trailed New Orleans 35-14 entering the 4th quarter only to go down in defeat 42-35 thanks Kenny's four touchdown passes. I remember many games like this. He had the uncanny knack of being able to thread the ball between outstretched arms and hands into the hands of his own waiting receivers. The exclusion of the Snake (Along with fellow Raiders Ray Guy and the fearsome Jack Tatum) is the most glaring omission of the Pro Footbal Hall of Fame. In an era that included hall of famers Roger Staubach, Bob Griese, Fran Tarkenton, and Terry Bradshaw, Kenny Stabler was the best of the lot. He was the best passer, the best field general, and the best quarterback.

Very average numbers. He was an interception machine but he played for a great team with a great coach.
