If its at all contentious (and which divorce isn't) going in without a lawyer is like taking a snowball to a knife fight.

Personally, I want a WELL PREPARED lawyer file for divorce to represent my best interest.

Widely varies from case to case. It is much less complicated when there are no kids involved and when the two people don't share any assets. Best case scenario you file quickly without any problems. The issues arise when the split isn't amicable; many times these cases go on and on for many years. Generally speaking, the more complex the relationship, the more difficult the divorce will be. Fair division doesn't apply some of the time and these cases are a real headache. So it really all depends on the individual divorce.
