LIFETIME FITNESS CARY NC LOCATION Dirty facilities considering relative newness of the gym (2yrs old give or take) non-existent childcare wouldn't leave any child under the age of 6 at this location as they are understaffed poorly trained or just indifferent. Management will not address any of your concerns they just don't return your calls after all youre just the consumer shelling out over $ 100.00 per month in membership dues and they keep raising the rate as their membership/enrollment rates dwindle. On the gym floor they have many "trained" fitness instructors but you cant get help from them unless youre willing to pay more than $100/hr for their personal training services otherwise they are too BUSY flirting with members or other staff or checking email or doing some other type of busy work ;) there are some exceptions but not many considering how large the staff is. The machines are plentiful but are reserved at various times of the day for teamtime or weight loss camps. There are also a fair number of machines that are broken for several days at a time and since we are a fairly new location you have to wonder how bad it will be in a year or two . All in all I'd say save your money and stay with the smaller more personable gyms, you will be happier in the long run unless you're looking for that singles club type of gym environment and you don't mind all the teens & tweens hanging out while you're trying to get in a quick workout.(Allows individuals 12y/o and up on floor unsupervised offers discount to members under 26) I've gone back to my smaller hospital affiliated gym and feel much better about working out here does it have the same amount of machines?.. no Does it have a cafe that serves bland expensive food & mediocre coffee?..no BUT what it does have is a caring staff who answers my questions and helps me when I need it without requesting an extra fee which is exorbitant and a childcare center with a 1:1 ratio of caring ladies so I don't have to worry about my child's safety and a reasonable rate of $40.00 per month and if I have a problem I can just walk up to the manager and talk to him about it without the fear of being shown the door for being a "troublemaker" yes this has happened in the Cary club. Buyer Beware I was swayed by the external apperance of Lifetime Cary but apperances can and were deceiving.

WOW - I am very suprised by some people's comments on here. Maybe you don't know how good these clubs really are. I travel a lot and I've worked out in hotels and other chains but I love having Life Time Fitness clubs in the majority of cities I tavel to. I know what I'm going to get every time. I still like my home club best but if I'm in Dallas, Detroit, Chicago or Atlanta, I know exactly when the clubs are open (all the time), I know where the locker rooms is, the pool and the studios. The clubs are clean, the staff is friendly and the towels and lockers are free. For a businessman that travels some 15,000 - 20,000 miles per year, its nice to have a club that I can go to when I'm away from home. If the airlines used the same standards, they wouldn't be all bankrupt. Life Time don't change a thing. Well, maybe add a few clubs in California. That would be great!

These guys go all out with helping you, beside the towel kid that was standing beside me willing to give me a towel at a moments notice the personal trainer was great and put me on a workout program that should help me burn a few pounds, hope to come back soon
lilygirl 10/08/2009
I received excellent help from a trainer. Very friendly and nonjudgmental. The club was extremely user friendly and offered any type of equipment imaginable. I am not typically a "workout" type person, but given my recent experiences, I will continue to exercise at Lifetime and really look forward to going. I know with the quality of everything offered and the experienced and helpful staff, I will continue to make progress with my battle of the bulge and just plain get stronger and healthier. Thank you so much for being here!

I have been a Life Time Fitness member for seven years and simply am stunned at the level of negativity on this board. Have you people ever visited a typical health club? Time to catch up with reality, folks. LTF is far and away the best option out there. My kids like to swim. They have it. I like to play basketball and swim. Got that covered too. By the way, I don't like to bring a towel or rent a locker. No worries. LTF thought of that too. Need something to eat or a haircut? Oh, yeah. They can do that too. Is it the cheapest in town? No...but it SHOULDN'T BE considering what they offer. Get a grip! Here's a hint... If you have a problem with them, talk to a manager. I've always found their staff to be approachable and helpful. If one doesn't have an answer that I'm seeking, they find someone who does.Plus, if LTF's clubs were only half as bad as you suggest here, they wouldn't have ANY members at all! Clearly, something is working right. I, for one, remain a happy long-term member. Here's the best thing for those of you who choose not to be a member.... You have freedom of choice! Choose another club. In fact, I prefer it. The last thing I need to hear are your constant complaints while I'm working out!

I am a new member(4 months) of the club(Minneapolis: SLP, Downtown) and I have nothing but good things to say about working out at the Lifetime. I have been working out regularly ever since I graduated from high school and have seen my share of clubs all over the country. What I enjoy the most about Lifetime are the little things that the club offers that I never expected at the other health clubs I have been a member at. Simple things like: free towels/lockers and space while in the locker room, open spaces and plenty of available treadmills to use during peak hours; availability and deals on food after I work out if I am hungry; massage and haircuts in house so I can do one-stop shopping; having access to a steam room; plenty of lanes for lap swimming; a rock climbing wall; 2 full basketball court(w/ pickup games); and much, much more. I mean, how many fitness clubs have golf video training mats that you can use to help w/ your swing. None. I have never even heard of that happening.Anyway, I am having a blast at Lifetime. Don't change.

I go to several of the Life Time Fitness clubs in the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area and have never had a bad experience. The staff at the check-in desk are now starting to recognize me and greet me when I come in. That goes a long way for me, because then I realize it is more than just a place to workout! My daughters cannot get enough of the Child Center. They ask every night at dinner if we are going. There is so much for them to do there! The kids have their own gym to play in!Now I am getting involved in other things than just the treadmill and pool. They regularly have events at the club like a "Parents Night Out" and things like that. Very cool to have things like that included in my membership. The club is always clean and kept in good condition. Highly recommend anyone looking to join a fitness club to check these guys out!

READ THE FINE PRINT BEFORE YOU SIGN A CONTRACT ! I have been a member for 1 1/2 years. I terminated my membership on October 6 because I was not using the facility enough to justify the cost. If I had terminated my membership on October 5, I would not have had any additional billing. Because I terminated it on the 6th, they will debit my credit card again on November 1. I appealed to the local Manager and his response was that I would have access to the facility until Nov 30 - I don't want access to it - that's why I'm canceling my membership. I contacted their corporate office to no avail. It appears that an extra month's membership dues is more important to Lifetime Fitness than customer satisfaction. By the way - they force you to terminate your membership in person - it would be too convenient for the client to allow them to cancel it on the phone.

corrupt and immoral From the top down this organization leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to character and operating a business with integrity. They have personal trainers on staff without proper certification but reward and promote those that sell the most. There are several examples of inappropriate relationships between managers and direct reports. However, those managers get promoted, especially the one's that are friends with the owner or other executives. They don't truly care about your "healthy way of life" they only care about their bank accounts. Yes, it's a business but it's a business based on service to members and the community first. They do not operate with integrity and it starts at the top.The facilities are top notch but they are a facade for the decay and corruption that occurs as a result of the reprehensible culture.

Alpharetta Lifetime was not worth the price. Too expensive, too many people. Undertrained staff. Watched their "personal trainers" train people with the zest of a walking zombie. Not inspiring.Terrible incident brought to attention of management was never addressed. While I was a member, there was a thuggish group of kids that hung out in the b-ball courts late at night. Making one wonder if this was even safe for people that only have later night hours to work out. Understaffed in late hours. Yuck. Quit and now am very happy at local bigger name, lower cost gym.

***Up date on Allen,TX Location:***With in the past two months there has been more Problems w/ the CORRUPTE Managment Staff at this Location. ***NEWS FLASH*** The Sales Dept. Head, we'll call him RAHG, was caught on Camera STEALING PRESCRIPTION DRUGS FROM A CURRENT EMPLOYEE/TEAM MEMBER. Used his Asst. Dept. Head and another member of Managment Staff as LOOK OUT GUYS. THE EMPLOYEE, WAS TAKING THE PILLS FOR A PREVIOUS SURGERY HE HAD. When ask why he took to pills, Rahg said, "Why you been Holding Out On Me Dog?" The HR dept. was called, and notified of the Theft and the video the same day. They Called the GM, will call her Desty, Who was "Out of the Office" and told her to "Suspend" Rahg for the rest of the day until further notice. Might I add, at this point Rahg found out HR knew, so he went to the employee and told him he would give him some money (in the form of a COMPANY gift Card) if he would let it go. Rahg was sent home for the weekend, and Desty was left w/ reviewing the Tape and to make a decesion. Do you know that ALL THREE Employee's (Rahg, and the 2 watch out guys) where back at work the next week. It was my understanding that the employee that they stole the Pills from forgot about it, some how, and who knows if HR seen the tape? This is another EXAMPLE of a Corrupted COMPANY! But I found out that the General Manager, Desty, and the Sales Dept. Head, Rahg came to LifeTime from another gym company that's employee's where known for DIRTY BUSINESS. They known each other for 5plus years. So, NOT ONLY is Rahg a THIEF, his General Manager (Desty) Approves it! This explaines the Scabies in the Kids Club! MASK EVERYTHING FOR SO LONG, AND THE DIRT WILL EVENTUALLY SHOW IT'S TRUE COLORS. How do u COMMIT A CRIME LIKE THIS, AND STILL HAVE A JOB? PRESCRIPTION PILLS?MANAGERS LIKE THESE TWO ARE THE SOLE REASON FOR MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE TO BE HONEST. LIFE TIME FITNESS HAS A LOT OF UNDERQUALIFIED MANAGER, THAT WHERE PROMOTED FOR 2 REASONS: 1- THEY HAD GREAT SALES NUMBERS AT A LOCATION THAT WAS 'BRAND NEW' TO THE AREA! OR 2- THEY ARE MARRIED TO, OR HAVE SOME SORT OF RELATIONSHIP(FAMILY) IN THE COMPANY. lOOK AT THESE TWO MANAGERS! DO UR RESEARCH...

Locations: 1 in Illinios 1 in ArizonaJob Application: Certified Personal TrainerReason for applying at Lifetime Fitness: Closest to where I lived at each time.I applied and had 2 interviews at both. The first interviews always go well for me with the Lead trainer and/or Fitness Coordinator. When it came down to the final interview with the Fitness Director and Club Manager, I was instantly "profiled!"Without devulging my ethnicity, I'm not white.I am, however, overqualified in personal training. I have just over 10 years of personal training with all various types of people that always resign with me as loyal and very satisfied clientele. I have a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from University of Illinois, Champaign. I have up to date certifications in ACSM, ACE, and ISSA. Plus I have certifications in Rehabilitation Training and Pre-During-Post Natal Training. And, I am trained in Muay Thai straight from Rawai Camp in Phuket, Thailand. So basically, I know my way around a gym.Unfortuately, at each time I had tried to apply at these 2 Lifetime Fitness gyms, I was given the shaft. And, each time they gave me a 2day pass just for applying so I took them up on the offer. In the Illinios gym I noticed a similar theme with the trainers. All white. When I had moved and did the same song and dance at the Arizona facility, it had reinforced my assumption!I give Lifetime Fitness 2 stars for two reasons. They have a clean facility and they don't hire any trainer without the right credentials.Unfortunately, as far as their staff.......... Stuck Up, Righteous @#$%%^&!I have to thank them for not taking me for I wouldn't have been able to start my own Personal Training Studio that is doing very well, thank you very much!

Lifetime fitness promote Pilates and offer many Pilates classes, however, the instructors do not know much about Pilates at all. They play fast music and you don't feel your muscle have toned after the class. What is the point!

The Lifetime Fitness center that I attend is great. The staff that greets me knows me by name along with my three kids. The child care center also knows my children by name and acknowledge them when they enter the center. This is a big help when the kids don't feel like "going to the gym". The management in the club has remodled both lockerrooms within the past few months and I've been told that we will be getting new tvs upstairs by the end of summer. It's definitely been busy the past month or so, but what do you expect when it's 105 outside. I try to go mid-day as this is the time I find to be least crowdy.I would highly recomend Lifetime Fitness. It's very family oriented and the cleanest center I've been a member of. I have been a member at the Tempe, Arizona club for going on 6 years in August.

Warenville Il. The only time the staff talks to me at lifetime fiteness is to sell me something. Customer Service is none existant. The staff is rude at best and goes down hill from there. the facility is clean and the machines are abundant but many in disrepair. This club is covenient to my home or I would go elsewear. It can be cost effective but if you don't buy extras your as good as invisable. If you have a choice, go elsewear.

The childcare at Lifetime Fitness is unacceptable. My 3-year-old girl lost a tooth there, and she will not get a new tooth for three years. Not a single childcare worker could tell me what happened or even that she had lost a tooth. I had to find it.Stay away.

So we went to LF for our first trip and were completely healthy when we went in. However when we came out one of children had the FLU by the next afternoon!! The dr said he had to have picked it up from somewhere (and that's the only place we had been) and that it was the rarest type of flu - not even treatment for the strand of flu he had and that he would have to suffer if out! With as bad off as he is there clearly were sick/infected kids allowed in the children's area for him to have picked this up from. I am very upset about this and am very hesitant about returning with him, which will mean I just have to cancel all together b/c I can't go w/o him. There's no time otherwise! Plus I don't like how you have to have your card instead of license or something for ID b/c once you have your stuff in your locker you have to leave your locker unlocked to drop off/pick-up your kids since you have to have your membership card to do it. We went to the pool and then them to the childcare center and me to workout and I wanted to just leave my stuff in the locker while they were there and while I worked out, but I had to take my card out whick put my locker key in to go drop them off. Otherwise I would have had to lug everything with me to drop them off and then go put it back in the locker room afterwards.. not very tiem efficient or convienent!!

I am not a member of lifetime fitness and never will be. My ex works at lifetime fitness and owes for several months of child support. There have been multiple letters and voice mails left for them by the attorney generals office and they refuse to acknowledge it in any way. I myself have contacted them and they "claim they never got anything and that the Attorney Generals Office isn't even who handles child support. I've dealt with the attny gen for 8 years now, and yes that is who handles child support down here in Texas! It AMAZES me that a corporation would disregard a legal order. Even after I gave them ALL of the information they could possibly need, they still are not cooperating with the child support order. The part that gets me the most is that they've got this dead beat dad working there and they're supporting him in not paying the child support. The reason for child support being withheld is because of fathers who choose not to financially support their children. I am in absolute disgust with this company!

I have been a Lifetime Member at the Shelby Twp, MI location for 4 years now. As a person who has worked out her entire life, I knew what I wanted from a facility. I do want a large facility, options for classes offered @ different times, pool, weights, machines, locker room, cleanliness etc. I use everything except the basketball court and rock climbing. My husband and I were extremely impressed with the child care center and the "rules".... babies were in our future. I enjoy all the options at Lifetime, except the child care. PARENTS MUST READ: Now that we are using it, we have realized that it is not sanitized according to their "policies". THEY DO NOT FOLLOW ANY POLICY REGARDING KEEPING OUR BABIES/CHILDREN HEALTHY. Two years ago, as I was putting my son in the infant area and noticed another baby with a "sick" nose- yellow, crusty etc. It was very obvious this baby should not be in there. Brought it to the employees attention and she said "ya, we need to have the mother remove the baby." After 1/2 hr and thinking about my son (6 months old at that time) I returned to the child center. The sick baby was still there. The policy is "NO sick children" - if workers notice the baby/child is sick or have to wipe their nose more than twice, the parent is called and needs to be removed for the health of others. My son was extremely sick for 3 weeks after - 3 doc appts and antibiotics-not including the cost and NO sleep. Second example- 5 month old daughter and 2 year old son in the day care and they once again became extremely ill... back to docs, and ONE MONTH later they were FINALLY better. I called the day care manager and brought it to her attention. She blamed the parents who bring their children in... she said "these parents don't care if their child is sick, they still want to work out. They don't care if their child gets another baby sick!" THIS IS EXACTLY WHY LIFETIME HAS RULES!! I REMOVED MY CHILDREN FROM THE CONTRACT. I went back to the child care to visually see the toys myself, the toys were NOT clean. For example, the blocks were full of dirt and you could see they hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Child care manager disregarded my concern and never cleaned anything. I have to work out when my husband is home from work or hire a babysitter!!! MOST PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING THAT IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE (and it is expensive) AND OTHERS HAVE RESPONDED "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR." WELL, THAT WAS OUR THINKING.... WE WANTED WHAT THEY SOLD US ON... THE BEST OF THE BEST AND A GREAT ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILDREN. WE PAY $72/MONTH. AND WHAT HAVE WE RECEIVED??? BTW-we take our kids everywhere to play... Chucky Cheese, play yards, zoo, Bounce Houses, play dates, etc. and they never end up like this. Seven months have gone by and once again I brought my children back to try again.... thinking positive that maybe it was a coincidence or any other excuse I could think of. They have been there three times and our 12 month old already has a virus and doc says "it has to run its course"... I brought it to his attention regarding the LT child care center and his response?? "You are not the first parent who has a sick child from THAT place." He recommended taking my concern to the General Manager of the facility. I took his advice called the GM hours ago I received a phone call from, guess who???? The child care manager!!!! THE GM DOESN'T EVEN WANT TO KNOW WHY I CONTACTED HER INSTEAD OF DEALING DIRECTLY TO THE CHILD CARE MANAGER. I ALSO CONTACTED THE CORPORATE OFFICE TODAY AND LEFT A MESSAGE WITH DIRECTOR OF CHILD CENTER, LADON, REGARDING CORPORATE POLICY... NO CALL BACK YET.Now that we are entering yet another sleepless night and a sick 12 month old, I WILL NEVER TAKE MY CHILDREN BACK THERE AGAIN. I WILL BE REEVALUATING MY CONTRACT AS WELL. BOTTOM LINE-THEY DO NOT FOLLOW CORPORATE POLICY. WHAT THEY SELL YOU ON, IS NOT EVEN NEAR WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE. EVEN IN THE PAST 2 YEARS YOU CAN REALLY NOTICE A DIFFERENCE IN THE CLEANLINESS OF THE ENTIRE FACILITY- FLOORS, MACHINES, EVEN IN STUDIOS HAVE BECOME DIRTY. THE SHELBY LOCATION IS ALWAYS PACKED--THEY MAKE ENOUGH $$ TO KEEP IT CLEAN. side note: others have mentioned issues with the teenagers who hang out.... that is because they offer a discount to 26 and under!!! Another big problem there.BUYER BEWARE.

I go to the Lifetime Fitness in SAVAGE, MN, and I love it! Every time I walk in there it's like I'm walking into a hotel. Only I don't sleep there, I just work out there. But the staff always makes sure that my "stay" with them is perfect. The managment walks around in suits/formal attire and they usually make eye contact with me and smile and say hi. As if they're trying to see if I'm doing ok. It's awesome! The childcare is incredible as well. They really want the children to enjoy their experience so that the parents can go workout as often as they can.I only wish that there were more pilates classes!

Greed is good at Nickel'n'dime Fitness!Do not even think of giving these idiots a debit card number or checking account number! You might as well bend over, you will be screwed. Use a credit card so you can request a chargeback. (See below.)The management at Lifetime Fitness are masters at ripoffs and runarounds. The first problem I encountered was when I had a personal trainer. I renewed my agreement with him when the initial round of sessions was completed. He was fired shortly after I renewed and there were no other trainers that had suitable schedules.Your calls will not be returned, nor will your voicemails be answered, no matter whether you call the "training manager", club manager, or "customer service". I called my credit card company and requested a chargeback for non-delivery of services, which resulted in a refund in full. The 30-day cancellation policy (either by certified mail return receipt requested, or by visiting a club prior to the 5th of the month) is a real ripoff. These jokers will not take a cancellation by phone, and make it as inconvenient as possible for members to cancel. My rating would be 0 stars, if that were possible.
MommyinFlorham Park 01/10/2009
I am a member of Lifetime Fitness in Florham Park. Their child care is horrendous. The few times I've observed practically nobody was watching the children. One lady flat out ignored a crying child and the manager screamed at her to pick him up. Against my better judgement I left my daughter there for 15 minutes and when I returned she was screaming her head off and no one cared to explain what happened. With a lot of persuading I got two different versions of the event and practically no information. They had to ice my daughter's lip and I asked them why they didn't fetch me and their reply was because there was no blood. Essentially they claimed she tripped over her own two feet and I'm sure it's a lie. She's too good a walker for that. I suspect she climbed the slide on her own and no one was paying attention and she fell off it. I resent that they withheld information about what happened, I resent the attitude they gave me when I simply inquired as to what happened, and I resent that they couldn't be bothered to keep their eyes on the kids.

Did all the disappointed customers read the contract? Did people tour the facilities? Did you consider touring the facilites at the time you would most often use them to try to get a feel for the other customers you would encounter? Or are you just parts of the American population that want something (in this case a club membership) for nothing and are suffering buyers remorse because you don't want to use a fitness club membership that you have lost the motivation to use. Find some other way to train but you'll likely find that after a few weeks or months the bloom will be off that rose and you won't want to do that either. I've been a member of a Michigan club for about a year. And it is crowded at peak times but that's a good thing because my rates will be help down with more customers paying the bills. I haven't come across rude employees or the filth that others have but if I did I wouldn't just walk away in indignation. I would take my complaints to management as it is above the employees pay grade and the employees are either improperly trained or staffed both of which are management's fault. If the site manager wasn't helpful I'd complain to the offsite manager and if the problem wasn't fixed I'd leave. And I'd make sure I'd remember that membership agreement I signed dictating the conditions of cancelling my membership rather than whining about the unfairness of it all. Lifetime is in the business of making money by provinding a service but unfortunately that is considered greed these days. But somehow the consumer never sees his/her demands from more than was bargained for at the same price as greed. If your worried about the most cost effective method to work out hang a pull up bar at home, do some pushups and go for a brisk walk/run. Quit complaining because the buyers remorse has set in and you didn't do enough kicking of the tires when you made your transaction with Lifetime or any other business. Not everything is perfect but most machines and weights (and there is enough of a variety for me) are in proper order. It's crowded in peak hours but if I'm motivated I can get a workout in by cooperating with others. My kids love the childcare area and look forward to going to Lifetime with me. The rock wall is a bonus and fun activity that week can do from time to time as a family that doesn't cost extra money. The outdoor pool is crowded but so is any other public pool or pool club on a day you'd want to use it. I think most of the kids programs are overpriced so I don't use them but I'm not offended by the prices--if somebody else is willing to pay it good for them.

I've been a member for over 4 years. I recently moved and tried to go to another Lifetime location. Unfortunately this location was a level higher and I was told I would have to pay a $100 upgrade fee and increase my monthly payment by $25. The staff was not friendly and made no attempt to keep me as a member. I happily quit Lifetime.

I was a member for about a year at the one in Columbia, MD. I joined w/o any major fee due to my phsyical therapist. However after a year they raised my rates by $10 (which they sleasy sales people tell you they will never go up). Ok fine but then the quality and cleanliness went downhill in no time. I found kid feces in the shower and notified an attendant to clean it up. After yelling at me that it wasn't her job she took a paper towel and wiped it up. She didn't disinfect the area/show at all! I told the manager on my way out the door he did nothing. I cancelled my membership that evening.

Zero Stars 2-Based on the "TOUR" i got the place is LOUD!! I want to relax when working out but due to the boom boom music that is being played in the aerobics area, i don't think i want to join. My wife loves it and she would because it glitsy and bright. Like a new toy that will lose its luster after a while. And like many of you its the scam that starts out looking like a good deal but like 24 hour fitness will be a fight when she stops going. They will not give us our "totaly refundable deposit back" . I walked up stairs to the gadget area" and there was the stress test guy working up the perfect program for some woman who looked like Linda Hamilton from the Terminator movie. That costs 89.00 each time. I ask our "saleperson" why it wasen't 89.00 for a first time and then a retest- he sad the guy has to make a living to. The pool is only 25 meters - lame- the out door area is cool if your 5 yrs old and I could't give a crap about ever getting my hair cut there. If you do the math you could invest in a good bike and have a better time without the hyper bippy tarts and fancy food made from sticks and grass. I will out live all of them because my genes are long lasting unless I get killed by one of them tearing ass out of the parking lot hyped up on life...........cheers

Zero stars. I was a happy member of NW Racquet Club (Saint Louis Park, MN) for 28 years. LTF bought it and destroyed it. The music/video is constant, loud, ubiquitous, vacuous, and stupifying. The staff are zombies. I complained, management wasn't interested. I quit. I hope the morons go under and a new owner turns that shit off (to quote Chris Rock).
busymomintexas 09/05/2008
Ok first of all, to all of you complaining about the cost of membership, well that's just ridiculous. You know exactly what you're getting into when you join, everyone knows it's not the cheapest gym in town, if you want cheap, basic (and dirty), join Golds. If you want something a little better but without the frills: join 24 hr Fitness. It's not like Lifetime has a monopoly in the gym world, there are other options. Secondly, I go to the North Austin location and I am completely confused by the bad reviews for this club. The locker rooms are AMAZING (again, go to Golds)and the child care is better than most of the preschools around here. If you are expecting your kid to receive one on one treatment, and never catch a cold - hire a nanny. You pay an extra $6 a month to get 2 hrs of childcare a day. That's pretty reasonable. The reason you can't bring your own floaties to the pool is because it's a safety and hygiene issue, and is stated very clearly in the membership packet, and on signs around the club. The reason the guy wasn't all sweetness and light when you violated the rule, was because he's probably sick of people not paying attention. They provide life vests for kids, which is more than you'll get anywhere else. I've never encountered a rude locker attendant or anyone else for that matter, but I'm also not expecting the person who likely makes $8 an hour picking up after myself and a bunch of other messy, spoiled soccer Moms to be the happiest most fulfilled person on earth. Would you be? Lifetime isn't perfect, but neither are any of the other gyms I've been a member of. I've manage to achieve my personal goals of staying in shape and being healthy; my kid has fun in their childcare, and I've never caught funk from the pool/locker area or gone home crying because the staff were just "so mean" I am not always the nicest person after being stuck in an office all day, and people pay a lot more for the services that my company provides than $80 a month at the gym.

I joined the Flower Mound, Texas location when they were first open and was happy with my choice. Gradually, over time, they began raising their prices steadily and eventually charged an additional $69 per month for yoga classes that had previously been included in the price of membership. By the time we quit, my husband and I were paying $180 per month. When we complained, we were told, "But we have free childcare!" My husband and I are happily childfree and didn't need childcare nor most of the other amenities. I now pay $23 per month at a full service gym nearby with all yoga classes included.

I was a member of Northwest Athletic club for more than 10 years until LTF bought all Northwest clubs. I used to pay $55 per month to Northwest. Now my monthly due has been increased to $80. I also agree with previous posts regarding poor customer services (CS) at LTF. Two weeks ago, the CS at the head quarter could not resolve my problem on the phone and told me that they would call me back. But they never did! LTF recently finished remodeling the club, and the due will be increased again soon. Fortunately, LA Fitness will open a brand new club in Hopkins which is close to my house. I cannot wait to check out this new LA Fitness club.

My short, almost employed experience as a trainer(saw the light); Very Poor management on all levels. Yes, almost "cult like" in their operations/employment requirements, disturbing how the company talks the talk but, does not walk it! Managers weren't familiar with their own employment packets, left confidential/personal documents and information unsecured, accessible to club members and other non authorized employees! Managers where rude to members, if you don't like it you can leave, snobbish attitudes. Very amateur in reality but put up a big false front, pretty facilities with adult children in charge. Pyramid scheme like compensation system with managers who only care about the bottom line $, not the quality or care of service. Just another big corporate, don't belong in the industry, riding a fad/trend for the money monster. Trix are for kids and the company loves to employ them so they "control" them. Weird place to work, as far as being a member, I wouldn't waste my money, go with a private, mom and pop or small studio facility...Better staff, better service!

This goes out to all the people who gave lifetime fitness an unfavorable rating. First of all, you cannot find a more upscale top of the line fitness center anywhere. They are the leader in the health club industry. Top of the line everything. I cannot believe the people who complain about there membership dues and rates. The rates are very reasonable considering what you all get. Do your due dilligence and actually know what you are signing when you become a member. If you do not want a month-to-month membership pay for a year in advance, quit gripping about the cancellation policy, it is a reasonable policy if you stop an think about it. If you want a cheap fitness center where the equipment is old and run down, unclean facility, only the basics, go somewhere else. Stop complaining about prices, look at the cost of everything around you going up an up. You get what you pay for.

This place is horrible. The attitude of everyone in the club (Tempe, AZ) is beyond snotty. I mean get real, this isn't North Scottsdale. The family locker room isn't a family locker room after all. It is a place for pervs and pedophiles to hang out. Management knows about this and is doing NOTHING about it. Save your $$$, not worth it at all.

New club opening June 14 in Woodstock, Georgia. They sent out flyers claiming "join now for $19.00 per person," with a $19.00 enrollment fee and $75.00 administative fee. However, when you go to the club and speak to a "salesman" you find out that the $19 is not the monthly fee, but is the enrollment fee. I realize that $19.00 is cheap, but the flyer gives one the impression that it is as stated "Celebrate with our special grand opening offer" since a Gold's Gymn opened next door just a couple of months ago, and a pretty new L.A. Fitness is down the street. I figured that they were really trying to compete. In the words of the salesman, "yeah, a lot of people have come in and made that mistake" (believing the monthly fee to be $19.00). I told him the ad was deceptive and misleading. He tried to get me to join by telling me that for this day only corporate is letting them waive the $19.00 fee, and I needed to join now (yeah, right!). I walked out. It's a beautiful club, with a lot of equipment--but I hate deceptive and misleaing advertisement--and apparently I was not the only one that fell for it!

I was a member of the Centreville, Virtginia club. The facilities were OK but not outstanding. I moved from the area and to cancel my membership I had to send a certified letter, return receipt. Why? My only guess is to make it as inconvenient as they can if you cancel your membership. Then you also have to notify them one month in advance so you end up paying a month for nothing. Why do they do this? The only thing I can come up with is GREED. This has to be one of the greediest organizations I was ever affiliated with. Would I ever join he club again? NO!

I completely agree with disappointedinTX. The "manager" was also rude to me when I simply went to her with a request. Many of the so-called managers are very arrogant. I deserve better treatment for $110 a month, plus all the extras I bought there.....

At the club level in the McKinney/Allen Texas location the inflexibility was amazing to me, but then the snide comment and out right rudeness from the "manager" was a slap in the face. They are now on my list of companies to never do business with. On the positive, I was compelled to waste more of my time to get some satisfaction, and the person I ended up talking to in the Corporate Member Relations department was excellant and addressed my request professionally and promtply. Too bad she did not work at the store level where she would make more of a difference

Overall, I am disappointed in this club (San Antonio at 281). The staff can be unbelievably rude, and as others have commented, it seems geared for families or teenagers. The club sponsors dozens of programs and extracurricular activities for kids and nothing for anyone else. I am retired, and the trainers and other personnel focus on what I can't do rather than what I can. I will say that the Team Weight Loss program is excellent and our trainer, at least, doesn't try to get us to buy all the other expensive stuff. Another trainer pressed me to buy a heart rate monitor, pay for an expensive test, buy their vitamins and anything else she could pile to an already expensive proposition. A Spectrum club is opening up down the road, and I am tempted to see if they treat their clientele any better.

I'm a member at the Novi, MI facility. As a person that works midnight shift I maintain my membership soley because the club is open 24hr. It's nice to be able to do my work-outs at 3a.m on my nights off.
However I do have a few disappointments. Many of the Precor eliptical trainers, other trainers, and bikes make creaking and thumping sounds when in use. The electronic HR function on many of them is nonfunctional.
The front entrance staff seem friendly and helpful. The night shift female locker room attendant is a tirant! On several occasions I've heard her loudly exclaim her displeasure about having to clean up after people! She will complain to her co-workers, pals, and to no one in particular. She feels she shouldn't have to pick up after "these people". She watches the girls in the locker room like a hawk. Waiting for them to commit a "violation". On one occasion she chased me through the locker room accusing me of leaving a towel in the shower area when I in fact had not! Her caustic attitude and intimidation make the patrons very uncomfortable. Myself and my co-workers have witnessed or endured her wrath and agree that her presence makes our work-out experience less enjoyable. We also work in customer service clean-up type postions so we're aware of how difficult and messy some customers can be. But to intimidate and scold customers is absolutely unacceptable! We plan on informing the home offices about this situation. It's totally unacceptable to receive this kind of treatment as a paying customer!

This is about the facility at Plano, TX. I went with a friend to take a tour of the facility before I made my decision whether to join the club. The member relations guy (or whatever he is called) was very curt and arrogant. After the tour, he told me about the membership types and the prices and I guess he assumed that I'm gonna join right then. I told him that I need to think about it and also look at other gyms around before I can make my decision. He immediately became rude and offensive and talked to me in a very derogatory way. He asked whats there to think about and why I went there if I wasn't joining. When I said I just wanted to look around first, he was like "Why didn't u do that urself?", duh! I didn't call him to give me a tour...I don't even know him. The front desk guy called him and asked him to give me the tour. And when I explained him calmly but sternly that its my choice whether to join or not and thats not the first time I have joined any gym, and that he can't force me to make my decision right then, he became more rude and sarcastic and said "in that case, let me show u the door". His manner was very offensive and rude. I strongly feel he might be racist. I don't know what his problem is but he needs to get a life real quick. PS: The other staff very quite polite and nice and helped me to lodge my complaint and meet the facility manager and tell him about the incident. The manager was also polite and listened to me patiently and apologized and promised to take action against that employee.

Buyers beware! Fee was raised just three months after I signed up and paid enrollment fee. It has a cancellation policy that guarantees the club will collect another 1-2 months of dues AFTER you give them notice. For the kind of money this place charges, it should at least pretend to be sensitive to its customers' needs. You are better off getting membership elsewhere.
Blessedmother 03/27/2008
I totally agree 100% with you! I also signed up and paid quit a hefty enrollment fee but felt it was worth it as the kids and I would be "Granfathered" in at that rate and it would not change. You and I were both sold the same bag of goods it sounds then BAM they raised the monthly fee $10 and charged $6 per child! I did contact the corporate and local office and my comments fell on deaf ears! I had been a member for years and my membership reflected the price that was "Promised" at sign up like you said and they came in and took back their promises and I quit! What good is a company if they don't stand behind their word? Nice customer service! Look around there are other options for anyone considering Lifetime Fitness! What they will promise you today they will recind tomorrow!!

i never realized lifetime had such a bad rap... i just wanted to write a review thinking that everyone loved it that there was another side. we call the Shelby Twp. MI location "Club Lifetime". it is crowded with teens through young twenties just socializing, it's to be expected so i just avoid peek time. well now that time is just getting later. i've been going around 10pm (which is not the most convenient time) it takes me forever to park sometimes EVERY spot is taken. then inside you have to wait for machines, not because they are just simply all being used (i can handle that) but with kids sitting on them chatting or even worse, on the phone. it makes me nuts seeing girls spending 10-15 minutes fussing with their hair in the mirrors blocking the drinking fountain or equipment. go to the pool... groups of guys that aren't in the pool, just sitting in chairs ogling. the machines always have wore out grips, i was told that the staff is trained to be un-friendly. i often find mold in the showers. when i first joined years ago family day was sunday, other than coming and going from daycare i never saw any children, now i can't enjoy the outdoor because of the over crowding of kids the entire summer. from the time it opens till the time it closes. when i joined thought i was joining a high end ATHLETIC CLUB (i knew the prices were high but if you wnt affordable join a gym) i no longer believe that i am getting what i am paying for. i am very disappointed, unfortunately there's no competition, everything else around is a "gym" (weights and treadmills) no athletic clubs nearby... hint for any entrepreneurs looking for their next venture

Terrible customer service, price gouging and think that they are God's gift to the fitness industry. I am a certified personal trainer and would never treat people that way. It seemed to me that the pool staff was the worst. Bitchy, snooty people who think they know more than you. Lifetime fitness, all I can say is, you can put silk drawers on a hog, but it's still a hog.
Tstarnes 03/10/2008
Horrible customer service. Stay away from this company, they see the people that workout there as walking debit cards and nothing else. This is both at the club and the Corp. level. If you ever have an issue or problem, you will wish you had gone somewhere else.

Alwasys open whenever the hell I feel like going there. Plenty of benches, weight machines, and cardio machines for everyone to use. No need to stand and wait around for anything. Always clean and kept in good condition. Membership is expensive compared to other gyms, but you do get what you pay for.

am a member of deerfield location in cincy ohio, beautiful place well maintained, kid friendly five stars all around... to those of you complaining quit complaining and read your paperwork and policies before you join than you won't be dissapointed when you find out about policies. Policies and guidelines are put in place fore reasons if they let everyone break the rules than it would not be as nice of a place as it is. shame on you for not caring about the saftey of your children in the daycare, those policyes are set for YOUR childrens saftey and if you can't follow them that says a lot about you as parents. i have been a member of other gyms and nothing compares, what other gyms provide a wide variety of fitness classes, towels, a cardio floor full of machines, a beautiful and well organized child center..the gym i was a member of didn't even have shower doors....for those of you recomding friends to other gyms good luck to you and your friends who will hate the other gyms.. those of you wishing lifetime fitness luck on keeping members they obviously don't need the help with over 70 locations i think they have already been blessed with luck and satisfied members i wish you luck at the run down gym you switched to.

Most greedy corporation I ever dealt with! They are constantly raising their fees and dues due to the stupidity of the public here who continues to pay them what they want.
I joined a Lifetime Fitness club in NW San Antonio, paid high membership fees ($200 initiation + $65 monthly) and I was told I can use my membership at any club. I went to exercise in NC San Antonio location and they had the audacity to ask me for additional $20 a month just to use the same exact identical club and equipments. Furthermore; I was treated like I am trying to steal something! I cancelled my membership and told them to shove it where the sun don't shine!!!!
