I have been constantly impressed when hearing Pollini live at his focus and selflessness & and by the sweep and range of his playing. I tihnk he has a very remarkable capacity to think and play in coherent paragraphs or phrases; he plays through and not just on the piano, and I never find him - as some seem to - cold, aloof or merely technical. I am ver impressed by the way he has recently returned to Schumann and he approaches complex but ardent music with sense and feeling.

He has wonderful tone; he puts himself at the service of the composer and the music without trying to draw attention to himself. He has the technique to do anything without its seeming difficult, but the technique is never the focus of the performance. He digs deep into musical works and delivers that profundity to his listeners.
