Geek Rock! I have to like them or they'll revoke my Geek Membership... (But I DON'T have to like "Beverly Hills" what was that crap?!)
ojuice3112 05/08/2008
Amazing band. Only problem with them is that they wrote Beverly Hills
Loerke 01/02/2007
Clean arrangements, sharp pop chords, clever lyrics. Why can't I listen to their albums more than twice? It must be the preppy precision with which they manufacture their riffage. And the cloying self-victimization of their lyrics, when they actually make sense. What is this band really about, anyway? What feelings do you have when you listen? I wish someone could tell me.

I've been a huge Weezer fan, since they came out with the Blue Album way back when. Good Stuff.

Alright, here's the thing. The Blue Album, awesome. And really, unless you truly are not a fan of the genre, I don't think you can deny that. Poppy, yes, but it had an edge to it that didn't really shoot them into the mainstream. Then Pinkerton came out. The only reason Pinkerton was not successful is because it was not what their audience was expecting. When you release and album that is pretty much pure pop, and follow it up with something like Pinkerton, it's not going to appeal to everyone in the original audience who dug the brighter stuff. For whoever said that they already had the success based on their first two, they didn't. Pinkerton didn't become popular until later, probably til their fan base grew up. Regardless, I attribute Green to trying to go with what works again. A pop album. I would not call Pinkerton a pop album, and apparently Rivers was really upset that it didn't work. If you are an artist, and need to make a living, are you going to keep going in a direction that clearly isn't getting you anywhere, or are you going to, again, go with what works? Now don't get me wrong, I love Pinkerton, and I like Green, I'm trying to defend the band in general. Next is Maladroit, which, I don't think is fantastic by any means, but now we have Make Beleive. Which is being called anywhere from the final blow to the ultimate comeback. My feeling is that it is good. I don't think it's to the standard of the first ones, and as I saw them in concert with the thirteen year olds in front of me screaming their lungs out to Beverly Hills, it was a little sad. However, I'm going to view this as a reverse bell curve. So, we have Blue and Pinkerton at the top of the slope, then we went down, and now we are on our way back up. Which means their next album will KICK!

Weezer is a flat-out riff factory that keeps tossing along catchy tunes year in, year out. Sure, PINKERTON was an unspooling of sorts, but at least they're willing to try (something that CAN'T be said about many musicians these days); they tightened up the arrangements and found comfort in a vibe that's both expressive and commercial (nice trick). Beverly Hills will be another hand-clapping good time from a band that moves along with recognizable grace and purpose.

One of the best indie groups. Pinkerton and Weezer are the best albums.
LongLiveWeezer 12/19/2004
THE GREATEST BAND EVER!!!!!!! SAY IT AINT SO has some of the best composition i have EVER heard from an alternative/indie song! They are AWESOME, both lyrics and musically. Rivers keeps his music simple but yet still beautiful. How ppl dont like them is MIND BOGGLING! They're def one of the GREATEST BANDS OF ALL TIME!
magellan 12/13/2004
Weezer's first album, the blue one, is up there among my top 10 favorite records of all time. Every track is great, every track is different. I don't know if I just stopped following them, or if the quality of their music took a hit - but I haven't had the urge to buy another Weezer album - maybe its to avoid the inevitable disappointment of hearing something that couldn't be as good as the first one.
Chalky 10/08/2004
first album was great....everything after that was subpar
Hardwire 08/05/2004
I don't understand how people cannot like them. Their lyrics are simplistic yet still poetic in a way. Some of their songs are stupid, Undone isn't that good of a song. Why we're on the topic of the Blue Album, their best album, My Name is Jonas, Buddy Holly, The World has Turned and Left Me Here, are much better than undone. Green Album is weak, But the first five songs are above average, notably Island in the Sun and whatever 5 is called. Hashpipe is okay. Pinkerton is their worst, and Maladroit has a different style to it, but has my favorite of their songs on it: Burnt Jamb, their best song. Dope Nose, Keep Fishin' and American Gigalo are other good songs on that album.
Music-Fan 07/19/2004
One of my favorite bands, I'll just leave at that because I could on and on about how great Weezer is.
maersk 05/18/2004

pennyroyalty 03/31/2004
i have to give weezer a five for keepin constant, sticking with what works, and of course, working with the Muppets! Weezer is happy music, even when it's not. They can help it. and i love them for it!
Andrea Stratton 11/26/2003
=w= Quite possibly one of the greatest bands...ever. All of their albums are great, my favorite being the blue album Creative,Funny.. and oh yea they write their own stuff..just an awesome band overall.
StanUzbeck 09/17/2003
I like these guys. I don't love them, and won't be buying any of their albums, but I've listened to most of their stuff and it seems like they are a pretty good band. I don't buy that they're somehow intelligent or groundbreaking though. I mean, writing great pop songs is one thing, but their humour is not all that witty. I guess you stick four pasty white geeks in a band and people think that they must be smarter than the rest of us because they look like they were beaten up daily in high school. Their singer looks like an extremely thin, dark-haired Michael Moore, actually, but I digress. Hmmm, they haven't done anything that the Pixies didn't do fifteen years ago, but at least they do it remarkably well.
MeatLamp 05/29/2003
The band is very good exept for the green album. That one sucked(except for Hashpipe).
DrFeelgood03 05/22/2003
Oh man they are sooo good

Okay, to give Weezer the benefit of the doubt and also due to the limitations of the Rate It All rating system, I'm going to give Weezer a 5 only because I can't give them a 4.9 and also because "Weezer" ceased to exist as soon as they released that totally uninspired waste of plastic, known to many as The Green Album. But judging Weezer by the period of their career in which they were still worthy of the Weezer name - Blue Album and Pinkerton, of course - one realizes that Rivers Cuomo WAS a good songwriter and that he had what it took to write music that really brought those words to life. The Blue Album is definitely in my Top 100, but don't write off Pinkerton - I could very easily call it The Blue Album II. Experimental my ass! If you want to see what happens when a band loses all sense of musical direction, all inspiration, and finds itself making noise just for the sake of making noise (and money), by all means, waste your hard-earned green on Weezer's later releases. Hell, pick up a copy of Jimmy Eat World's Bleed American while you're at it. And then listen to The Blue Album again and yearn for a time when bands were smart enough to recognize a good thing when they had it, and didn't f*ck with their formula and sellout. As far as I could tell, these guys got quite a bit of press with their first two albums, so it's not like they really HAD to sellout. I mean, they established a sizeable fanbase pretty early on, so they never had to "reach out" to any broader audience, because everybody already knew who they were. But for whatever reason, I'm sure that behind it all, there can be found a fat old man with deep pockets, chewing a cigar, and pulling some serious indie pop puppet strings.

I love Weezer, they rock. They have so many good songs. Dope Nose, Keep Fishin', and of course Undone are all great songs. For anyone who says Weezer stinks, Jorgan Von Stingle says, NO WAY! Rock on, Weez.
Genku 11/19/2002
Nice band but 'their' (I think you mean they're) still ugly. Hmm, nice name *Kurma's^hott* but.. you're still stupid. (I couldn't resist.) It doesn't matter if they look like geeks, thats what the point of it is. Their music is very good. It's written for all the geeks and losers out there, about liking a girl but she doesn't like you back.. getting broken up with.. having your heat broken and oh yes, lesbians. They write catchy tunes that will get stuck in your head all day, they are very good. Not Beatles good but.. good.
*Kurma's^hott* 10/03/2002
at first they sucked but i think their all cutified now......their music not the actual band ..no, no thier still ugly
RebelYell1861 08/20/2002

Weezer is an amazing, intelligent, interesting band. I've seen them live, and I can say that they put on a truly good show. Definitely one of the more creative bands out there. Their songs can really touch your soul. One of my personal favourite songs is "Butterfly." Take a listen, I highly recommend them!
Thorne 10/15/2001
These guys used to be one of my favorite bands. Then the green album came out and the tour before and all of a sudden everyone and their mother became Weezer fans. How cool is that? Not very. That and their new album stinks to high heaven.Still their two previose and much more original albums can still let me reflect on the days of yester year when I was one of the only folks I knew who had either of the Weezer albums and waited patiently for an album just as good or better than their touching and true Pinkerton album. Weezer has let me down. Ask me a year ago before the green album and before the new fans and they would have gotten a five. I still think they are capable of a good album. They just need to make it. These guys were HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Check their other two albums out and stay as far away from the green one as possible.
TheFreak 10/09/2001
To be honest, I think Weezer is kind of dumb. That stupid song about lesbians, whatever it's called, disgusted me. But overall, they are okay performers, and the rest of their music is okay. But they can be annoying sometimes. And to getupkids1 (even though I know you personally and could ask you anytime): would you mind explaining what emo is?
glorybox3 09/10/2001
Weezer is simply a great band. I have every one of their CD's and cherish all of them very much. From the achingly heartfelt blue album, to the intelligent and experimental Pinkerton, to the fun and poppy green album, Weezer has been so influencial groundbreaking. They have simple, real music about things people can really simpathize with. Listening to their songs, one gets this feeling of contentment, just a happy little glow inside-kinda like you are apart of something, like someone understands you. River Cuomo's voice is-for a lack of a better word-simple. It's touching and comforting and just..plain good. You know, it's hard to find words to describe this band because what happens when you listen to them are just feelings(naturally). Glows and warmth and most of it is indescribable. Listen to them and you'll know what I mean.
