 | VirileVagabond (32) 08/09/2004 | A hang glider is another recreational form of transportation that has very little practical uses. Moreover, unlike a hot air balloon, a hang glider cannot carry any material payload, other than the pilot. The bottom line is that a hang glider can only get 2 stars as a method of transportation based on recreational value alone, no matter how fun they appear to be.

 | Hang glider pilot (0) 07/05/2004 | I started hang gliding a little over a year ago. I am now an addict. Some days it's smooth and calm and you can fly with no hands. Other days its like riding a 50 foot wave, somewhat terrifying, but one hell of a rush. What most people don't realize is that the goal in hang gliding is launch and go up. Typically I'll launch at 5400' and catch a rising bubble or column of warm air and get to 6000-8000 feet. On good days pilots can get to 15,000 feet at my local site. Average flight time is around 1-4 hours. If you haven't tried it and have an interest in aeronautics, you should give it a shot.

 | StanUzbeck (14) 01/12/2004 | Kind of like flying a kite, except that you strap yourself to the kite and there's no string attached to you. This looks really fun, in other words. There aren't really any mountains near where I live though, so no one really hang glides around here. I'd love to give it a try someday though.
