Pretty bad, but hardly surprising, given the hypocritical track record of the IOC.

More than anything, the Salt Lake City scandal illuminated the ugly side of the selection process for the site. As this story unfolded, it became rather apparent that this has been business as usual for some time. In many areas of the world, bribery is not only tolerated but also accepted and encouraged, which means Americans need to qualify their views a bit given that the Olympics are an international event. Nevertheless, the scandal did erode the public's faith in the process.

Salt Lake has put on one hell of a show since the olympics started. It's too bad they had to bribe the IOC. Yes, at first I found it appalling that they would sink to that level (The bribers AND the bribees) until I found out that they were just playing by the same rules everyone else was playing by. Look at the world we live in and it shouldn't surprise you. Every host city of the games in the last century bought votes from the IOC somehow. You saw the way Atlanta's and Sydney's olympic committees scrambled when Salt Lake was exposed. However, Bribery and cheating pale in comparison to violence and killing and that's why I'm rating this a 3.
