 | EschewObfuscation (61) 10/15/2004 | What the US needs right now, in its president, is the most liberal, anti-war senator, from its most liberal state, someone who will continue to fight what he calls the wrong war, at the wrong place at the wrong time, has insulted our coalition allies by calling them bribed, has lied under oath about the acts of the US military, has been honored in the War Museum of the only successful wartime enemy of the US, with a commemoration to his contribution to their victory through his seditious acts, and has never, never once voted aye on any bill to develop new weapons or bolster the defense of the United States. Someone, please, tell me where I'm wrong.

 | whamo (0) 09/03/2004 | Bush is a moron. He treats veterans like dog waste. He appoints the worst polluters in the world to oversee environmental agencies. He lied about WMD. He is a coward because he didn't serve in Viet Nam. He spent hundreds of billions of dollars that we don't have. He is corrupt. He wasn't really elected in the first place.

 | getthefacts (0) 09/03/2004 | Don't believe Kerry is some sort of superhero. After his deferrment to study in Paris was denied, he enlisted in the Naval Reserve (inactive). He also left his tour 8 months early because he suffered 3 minor wounds. So his his Send Me! and No Man Left Behind are quite humorous. He then met with North Vietnamese communists in Paris on multiple occasions while we were still at war in Vietnam! Get the facts before you say at least he's not Bush, because this guy is much worse.

 | luckylouie (1) 08/25/2004 | He has been tested under fire and knows what it means to maintain a strong military and, when he sends our brave young soldiers in harms way, we go with overwhelming force to win.

 | rainer21 (0) 08/13/2004 | All I know for certain is that the president has led our country into the worst times its seen, whether it be economically, militarily, environment, education, healthcare, or our place in the world community. I have confidence that john kerry can undo at least some of the damage that has been done.

 | JonTheMan (27) 08/03/2004 | The idea that Kerry is some sort of quasi-communist ultra-liberal is at best utterly ridiculous. Fiscally he's rather conservative, his voting record on tax cuts and spending shows this. Further Kerry is far from the pacifist some present him as. He intends to increase the overall troop count by 40,000, end the backdraft of reservists and he uses the same rhetoric as Bush does when discussing terrorists the future belongs to freedom, get the terrorists before they get us etc. In terms of discretionary spending if you compare his record to that of Dubya's, Kerry looks like a miserly penny pincher. Kerry economically seems rather conservative in some of his plans which includes ending corporate welfare and lowering taxes on corporations, ideas which have swung many more traditionally conservative Republicans. Of course issues which Kerry is steadfastly liberal on is health care and workers rights and has tried consistently to raise the minimum wage and fight discrimination in the workplace (for which I applaud him). However when compared to Nader or Kucinich, who have plans like doubling the minimum wage and effectively nationalizing healthcare he still isn't anywhere near as far to the left as them. If anything Kerry's not left-wing enough for me. Though if given the choice I would rather have a measured leftish-moderate for President then a belligerent neo-conservative and that's the type of stigma that Kerry will probably ride to victory in the coming election.

 | freebird_0128 (5) 08/03/2004 | First of all, let me say that I do not enjoy rating political items like this. As most of you know, I stick to rating what I know such as film and TV. However I do pay close to attention to what's going on in our nation and have formed my own political opinions. Most of the time, I just don't see the need to post my political views every other review, constantly pushing propaganda as if it sways the minds of reviewers here. In this race, the question isn't really vote for Kerry- its really become vote for someone besides George Bush. As unfortunate as this is, it has become my own sentiments. As the proud wife of a military man, I am extremely fearful for both him and our country if Bush is granted another four years. So its not that Kerry is the best person or the perfect candidate..but he's someone who's not Bush.

 | GOPrules (0) 07/28/2004 | Kerry's voting record is terrible. He doesn't believe that children should be protected from violence and thinks the way to solve the worlds problems by taxing everyone. That's not normal.

 | THEBIRDOG (0) 07/10/2004 | Another tax and spend liberal that keeps telling us tax cuts are bad instead of telling us how our government should cut back on it's own wasteful spending and handouts to other countries. Washington needs to get it's sh!t together before asking the hard working American tax payers to ponie up more cash.

 | mvjoyce530 (0) 06/18/2004 | I know John Kerry will try to clean up the mess W has gotten us into. He can't do it alone though. He needs a cooperative congress. That will only happen if the current Republican leadership is replaced.

 | Peanut Brittle Jones (0) 06/16/2004 | John Kerry would be a good President if you like all your money taken away, and his response would be that it is good for you until you realize it is bad, and he will concur.

 | Sundiszno (30) 04/11/2004 | Just finished reading Kerry's book, A Call to Service. The one think I possibly could agree with and support him on is his energy policy (but even that is fraught with maybes). He takes a number of gratuitous swipes at Bush (not surprisingly), trotting out the old Democratic mantra of Republican tax cuts for the wealthy and Bush caters to oil interests. There are plenty of unsupported, throw-away negative comments. OK, this comment is supposed to be about Kerry's qualifications for President. I think he has a multitude of ideas; because he has so many, some are bouund to be worthwhile. However (again, based on reading his book, forgetting even whether he's a Dem or GOP), it seems that most of his ideas are going to mean big, big increases in taxes (of course, he doesn't state that in the book). He talks about improving the education system (which I endorse), but the solution seems to be Let's throw more money at the education problem (more pay for teachers, better school buildings). Never a word about getting back to basics (i.e., teaching kids to read and spell correctly, although he does recognize that too many high school kids go into college with below-standard reading skills). He just doesn' seem to address what it's going to cost. His health-care plans likewise do not really address how they are going to be funded - he says he'd make health care more universal and affordable (but how to make it affordable is ignored). His final chapter goes on and on about creating all kinds of volunteer organizations - everything from policing neighborhoods (seems to me from what he describes like it's a combination civil defense, neighborhood watch, and informant system, somewhat reminiscent of totalitarian regimes - talk about government intrusion!). Although labeled as volunteerism, he talks about paying people for whathey do (notably giving kids a free college education in return for a couple of years of service). No mention of how this is going to be funded (but I'd guess it's the obvious, i.e., taxes). The other aspect of this is that if pure volunteerism is expected (he seems to imply that it would be), then it's be a sort of tax in itself (i.e., you work for the government, or community, and don't get paid). This also ingnores what would probably be a huge bureaucracy needed to administer all of these volunteer organizations (you'd have to read the chapter to understand fully what he's proposing). He has some laudable ideas in theory, but I'm not sure of the practical aspects.
