Cantaloupe has got to be one of the most variable things out there when it comes to flavor and texture. It can be either too sweet or not one bit sweet, it can be dense and firm like ice cream right out of the freezer or it can be grainy disgusting mush. And the flavor has to be the most variable part of all: it can be either mild and delicous or way too "cantaloupey" and overpowering. There can also sometimes be some very odd flavors mixed in(like you're eating something from another planet) I absolutely agree with the reviewer who said "It smells like garbage smells" when it gets over ripe and old. So, yeah Cantaloupe...Id have to say when it's good it's great, but when it's bad it's terrible.

I never had any luck with cantaloupe. I found out later in life that you had to peel them. That is why they hurt my teeth.

It can depend. This would not be the best melon, but very nutritious and delicious if taken at the right times and if it is not watered-down.
nirose 05/26/2009
i tasted it sometimes and it was good.

Cantaloupe is okay, but if I had to choose between it and watermelon, it would be the latter, hands down.

I'm not that much into cantaloupe. But when I do eat it, I like it to be chilled right out of the refrigerator.
Paula5816 09/30/2008
YUM!!!! As long as it's not over or under ripe it's gotta be perfect!!!!

BLECH! AND I'm allergic.

It is no wonder that the cantaloupe with its refreshingly rich flavor and aroma and minimal number of calories is the most popular variety of melon in the United States.

Great with cottage cheese for breakfast. Like taking a multi-vitamin in terms of nutrition.

My least favorite melon, but still good, especially in warm weather.

So sweet and juicy, cantaloupe is one of my favorite fruits to eat.

Good stuff. I eat a salad of watermelon, canteloupe, and honeydew melon, and it often seems to take a backseat to the watermelon, but it does have the advantage of being more consistently ripe and tasty.
kattwoman 05/17/2005
this is a refreshing fruit to eat in the summer
texasyankee 04/19/2005
Yummy but overripe, tastes like how a garbage can smells...yuck!
Randyman 03/20/2005
When it's good it's very good, when it's bad it's very bad. Have you ever tasted an over ripe cantaloupe? The worst.
RebelYell1861 05/10/2003
If you get a good one they're great......problem is being able to find good ones consistently.
philc 04/11/2003
Just don't like the taste or texture at all.
Jason1972 10/29/2002
It has an annoyingly sweet taste.
The Waffler 11/02/2001
Cantaloupe is sort of bland when it's alone, but is a nice complimentary addition to fruit salads. It, like most melons, should not be eaten by itself.
The_Decockster 10/01/2001
YUCK! I HATE these things!!!
danmuse 09/14/2001
Never liked them. Nothing personal. It's always disappointing when I ask for fruit salad and it comes out being mostly cantaloupe. I always pick all the cantaloupe out of anything that contains it before I can eat it.
CastleBee 09/10/2001
I've been told that some of the best in the entire world are grown in my own state. These are extremely sweet, juicy and great in the summer. If they are out of season or not ripened just right, I find them to be pretty bland at times. Cantaloupe is a very low calorie fruit so excellent for dieting. I just never understood how my mother could eat them with pepper???
