Any event where the outcome is completely determined by a potentially biased judge (skating, gymnastics, diviing, etc.) has the potential for a situation like this, and I'm guessing it happens more often than the organizers of those events would like to admit.

This sport is so crooked it makes the WWE look honest. If they'd been able to skate, Tim Donaghy, the Black Sox, Pete Rose and Hal Chase would have been right at home here.

Ice skating is fixed as American Idol. I'm not surprise they replace it with another crappy judging system.

Sexist comment ahead- it was more appalling to chicks.  Guys for years have understood that figure skating is a glorified dog-show filled with underage girls with eating disorders dressed in a manner that brings out the sexual predator in many men in several first and third world countries.  Figure skating fixed?  C'mon- it's the WWE on ice. . .

One of The Most Appalling Moments in Olympic History? You've GOT to be sh***ing me, folks...

The recent scandal involving the figure skating judges isn't all that appalling, given that this kind of stuff has been pretty much a given for many years. In fact, one can argue that exposing the problem in an undeniable way may help the long-term integrity of the games.

So not appalling in the slightest. The Canadians were just whiners. When you compete in a judged sport, you can't complain when the judges don't pick you...it goes with the territory!

(The rating is based on how appalling the incident was, not how much I liked it) It's a shame that someone would do that, and though I'm sure this isn't the first time it's happened, I wish that they would take more precautions in the future to make sure it is the last.

Olympics: What a laugh, just to think that all the countries of the world can get together, and participate in the sport of their choosing, only to have pollitics and resentment greet them after the "pie in the sky" system screws you over. The Olympics are a HUGE laugh and a waste of human effort and desire, from the hopeful participants !

It's not just the Olympics. F.S. is fixed. No one can fix it.

Figure skating is fixed. This is a surprise to some one?

This one was so obvious, even someone who had never watched figure skating would have realized this was fixed.

I am glad that Sale/Pelletier got their gold medal. They deserved it. But the thing that bothers me is the American team not getting a medal. Kyoko Ina and John Zimmerman had a clean program. Their lifts and spins were gorgeous.Yet, those morons put them in fifth place.

What were the motives? Was gambling involved? Still not as appalling as the murders of the israeli olympic athletes.
