The horse has already gotten out of that barn. These people have imaginations that won't quit, so we can expect to be attacked again, but not through airports. Lots of money and time have been lost on this one, not to mention the irritation of seeing little old ladies being 'wanded' in the name of fairness. Dumb....

I think this ones fairly obvious. Islamists hi-jack planes So increase security on planes
Mr.Political 10/05/2004
For sure! But I use the Newark International Airport (where one of the hyjacked planes took off from) for all of my flights and the security is minimal at best (post 9-11). Other airports however are top notch security!
Ry7191 06/30/2004
Why didnt Bush want to shoot down the planes? Its unfortunate but he wanted this to happen. He PLANNED for this to happen. This evil person must go to jail and/or be executed for the pain he brought to the United States.
kingbaby 11/19/2003
Yes indeed. But let's take a lesson from countries that are already good at this and avoid the rude, sloppy, amatuerish way it is done in our airports these days.
StanUzbeck 09/20/2003
Yeah, this is a very good idea. Obviously there needs to be more security at airports, but the way it has been implemented has been completely wrong. Israel's airline has never had a hijacking, and they are completely surrounded by enemies who would gladly give their lives to kill Jews. And Israeli airports don't waste time picking people at random out of lines, or by profiling people based on religion or ethnic appearance. They have done behavioural studies and know exactly what to look for in potential terrorists, and all without inconveniencing the other passengers in any way. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't feel at all safe when I see armored men with machine guns standing around at the airport. It actually makes me feel less safe, especially when I suspect that it's pointless. It's like firing a rocket launcher into a swamp in an attempt to kill six guilty mosquitoes.
President -X-D 04/22/2003
Fewer regulations and taxes on airlines, especially the outrageous taxes on fuel, would free up the money to allow for better security. The chickens have come home to roost; now the problem goes far beyond expensive tickets... people's lives are in danger. Bring back the sky marshals and CUT the taxes on fuel!
Redoedo 04/22/2003
This is neccessary in order to protect or Homeland from another terrorist attack in the future. The government and the airline industries need to establish EFFECTIVE methods of protecting American travelers and airplanes.
RowdyYates 02/17/2003
Read all the way to the bottom of this email if you have one Drop of True American Blood Running in your veins !!!!!! I am sick and tired of people saying we can't win against terrorism. Well we can form a United Front and we can do something.... United ! ! !.....I beg you to send this to everyone YOU KNOW !!!!!! Just think, some of us cant go running around the world chasing terrorists But WE CAN DO THIS !!!!! Won't You join your Countrymen in the same way they stormed the beaches at Normandy ???? Its time to pick what side of the fence we are on and this is one way we can say ......We will win This ONE BATTLE on our HOMELAND for Sure !!!!! interesting... Subject: Are you supporting terrorism? Subject: Beat 'em at their own game... GASOLINE SOLUTION! We CAN buy gasoline that's not from Middle East. Why didn't George W. think of this? Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia. Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil: Those that do import: Shell.....205,742,000 barrels Chevron/Texaco.....144,332,000 barrels Exxon /Mobil.....130,082,000 barrels Marathon/Speedway......117,740,000 barrels Amoco.....62,231,000 barrels If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil: Citgo.....0 barrels Sunoco..... ..0 barrels Conoco..... ..0 barrels Sinclair..... 0 barrels BP/Phillips..... 0 barrels Hess.....0 barrels All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis. Keep this list in your car; share it with friends. Stop paying for terrorism..... But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I'm sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. How much would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next eight days!

America is too lax in its security of everything, not just air travel. The fact that the 9/11 terrorists got into the country at all proves that much. It's just way too easy to get into this country and set up shop.
loki13 04/01/2002
I belive we have been far too incompentent for far too long on our air security, allowing these filthy muslims to kill civilians here. I also belive everyone should be subject to intensive searches before boarding aircraft, especially those that are coming into the US from foreign countries.
Shorts 10/20/2001
I've just read all of the comments on airline security. I believe that most of us agree that our airlines are in need of extra help inside & on the tarmac too! The airlines don't want to PAY the $$$ as we all know. It's sad but i think they would rather pay the deceased familys then pay for the help that's badly NEEDED. Lets start writing to the big cheeses{CEO's & all the money guys} The more we stand together the better we are. All of us folks together will get the extra help for badly needed extra security. If we have nothing to hide who the hell cares if they look in the bags.BETTER SAFE THEN SORRY! PEACE & HEALTH, Shorts
Molfan 10/16/2001
Yes, Of course we should. I would not have any problem with extra security. I would feel safer going on a plane knowing that everyone was carefully checked before they boarded. Last month when these tragedies happened, I was shocked when I learned about how little training airport security employees had for this job. This should have never been considered a low paying "lowly" job. I agree with the last poster that this country had to have this horrible tragedy before we did something about it.
Rusty 10/16/2001
Absolutely. I know that I would want to feel safe, and so perhaps having air marshals on board airlines may be a good thing. I know for a fact that El Al, the Israeli national airline company, has them on board, with NO access to the pilot and co-pilot - not even if you want to voice a complaint. My question is, why is it that a national tragedy has to happen before certain higher-ups start to consider this option? And for that matter, why limit it to major airlines? Why not include charters while we're at it? I realize money is always a factor when considering these options, and we all know the airline industry is a cash cow, but if it means living as I want to live my life, then securing airliners and airplanes is a good thing.
musicfan 10/16/2001
We should arm the pilots and give them absolute power and control over their flights. There should be zero tolerance for people who disobey the captain's orders. This is the way captains command their ships.
Marlee 10/11/2001
Hire professionals that make more than $5.50 per hour!! Terriorist specialists should be in all airports checking everyone.
MedgarEvers 10/09/2001
This isn't something that I would have initially thought of. I'd figured that they wouldn't use planes if they were to attack again, but on second thought, perhaps they hope most Americans are thinking like I did. We've got to enforce security overall here in the US, and air travel safety is definitely vital.
afterglow70 10/06/2001
My 8 year old daughter flies from Kansas City to Sacramento California twice yearly. I, at first, was affraid to allow her fly on a plane. Now, I think that it is still one of the safest ways to travel. I have been on a plane since the attacks the security is tremendous now. I feel sorry for the next terrorist who tries to take over a plane in the world, let alone the USA. He will be fallen at the hands of people that don't care what he may have as a weapon.
pedrogouveia 09/29/2001
I don't really think it's the greatest idea to invest on air travel security as it is. Security is already pretty good on all American Airports. Who ever thought anyone would hijack an airplane with boxcutters. Just eliminating the ability to carry any sort of sharp, cutting object should do the job.
TheFreak 09/25/2001
I have the greatest idea---why don't we just make it a law that airline security guards need to STAY AWAKE at all times? That way, maybe we wouldn't be letting terrorists slip onto planes! God, sometimes I wish y'all wouldn't always try to make things so complicated! This is really very simple. Place a few more security guards here or there, that's a good idea. Maybe lower the limit for the amount of carry-on luggage allowed just a tad, if the limit is not already one container/item! But what we really need, and you people obviously have yet to see this, is for all airline people to just WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GUNPOWDER!!!!! Christ, and I thought I fell asleep in class too much!
olsaintnic 09/16/2001
Give pilots more security...maybe let pilots carry knives and make the cockpit more secure, then at least the plane won't be hijacked. It's already safe on a plane, there's no way to confiscate plastic knives. The only way would be to search passengers, and that would violate our civil rights.
marcia 09/16/2001
I recently cam to the States and was appalled at the lack of security on internal flights. In the UK we have everything checked. There is no way anyone would've been able to carry a knife or box cutter onto a plane. More security can only eb a good thing.
KnightofHo 09/15/2001
Yes, we as americans have become accustomed to our increased freedom and convenience, but the incident on 9/11/2001 was just a taste of what's to come if we do not step up our security
abichara 09/15/2001
Obviously, increasing security in the air must be our first priority after this terrorist incidence. I believe that all people should have to open their bags in an airport and have their things searched through at checkpoint in airports throughout the country. The Europeans do this and frankly, I do not believe it is an invasion of privacy in any way. This is for the security of the people of America. I would not mind extended waits at airports either. I also do agree with the assertion that pilots should be allowed to be armed. Arming pilots may potentially avert these types of terrorist incidences from occuring. Terrorists may not even bother hijacking planes because they realize they will not be successful. This argument could also be equated to the thief who does not break into a house for fear that the owner of the house is armed. All precautions must be taken to secure American airspace.
artbuf 09/14/2001
I am sure the HCI folks will have a hard time with this, but I say arm the pilots. I mean, the Bureau of Land Management Agents are now authorized to carry weapons, why not the people where the threat is? Many other countries arm their pilots. No, a gun is NOT an instant solution to every problem. Yes, the gun could be taken from the pilot and used against him. Yes, shooting a firearm on an airplane is a dangerous event. But the deterrence factor works, and we don't have to place Delta Force on every flight (like one of the Senators proposed, sorry, I don't remember which). I would rather have the pilot armed than a military presence, even as a former soldier and flag-waving supporter of the Armed Forces. I am not ready to live in a police state, and allow these thugs in other countries to take my rights and privileges away.
SamIAm 09/14/2001
This is a no brainer, and I am not surprised that it is so high on the list. Air travel security needs to be increased. I also think that in the next few weeks and months people will be patient. I sincerely hope that the patience of travelers endures for years to come. I did see one news report of a woman complaining about the wait (this was on Thursday when many airports reopened). It saddens and frightens me to think that there may be more people like her. We must be patient. We can not become complacent again.
CastleBee 09/13/2001
This is a given and already under way. We obviously can never afford to become complacent about ANY kind of security again.
Yadayada 09/13/2001
This is a must for all countries (not just America). But, if you did a test on plane safety and 2/3 of the testers got dangerous goods on board a plane would you just leave things the way they were. This is a shocking event (WTC destoryed) to wake everyone up. Do something about it NOW!
Snoopy 09/12/2001
They definitely need to increase air safety. It's something that should have been done long ago.
ellajedlicka21 09/12/2001
My high school history teacher said today that he accidentally brought a knife on board a plane on one occassion and the metal detector did not detect it. THAT is pretty bad!
